Following an emphatic sweep of then-no. 4 Washington up in Seattle, the no. 2 Oregon softball team returns to the Jane this weekend for a three-game series versus Utah in what will be their final regular season home stand of the year. With Sunday serving as the "senior day celebration," despite the strong likelihood that the Ducks will host at least one weekend of postseason softball later this month, Oregon will honor four seniors: Gwen Svekis, Jenna Lilley, DJ Sanders and Lauren Lindvall. After the impressive previous weekend, the Ducks have no time to relax in the race for the PAC-12 championship, which currently features Oregon knotted at the top of the standings with rival UCLA at 15-3 in conference play. Coming off Oregon's first game three Pac-12 win Sunday against USC, it was the perfect time to build momentum, because number six rival the Oregon State Beavers came to town on Tuesday. The momentum though wasn't enough as OSU defeated UO 4-3 in a game dominated by the Beaver pitching staff. Kevin Abel leading that group, pitching over six innings, allowing zero runs, and only one hit. The Ducks put together a mere two hits on the night, one coming from DH Kenyon Yovan who hit a three run home run in the first inning, the only three runs the Ducks scored all night. With the help of some poor Oregon pitching that walked OSU batters around the bases, the Beavers put together six hits including a Trevor Larnach solo home run in the second. The Ducks now try to hold their heads high as they head to California to face off against UC Irvine in a three game series beginning on Friday. No. 2 Oregon Softball ended an exhilarating series in Seattle with a 5-3 win over no. 4 Washington, clinching the sweep of the Huskies Sunday afternoon. Despite falling behind early for the third consecutive game, the Ducks yet again pushed the right buttons in a come-from-behind win thanks to five runs off Washington starter Gabbie Plain in the third inning. Jenna Lilley knocked the first two of those five with a double off the right field wall that scored Lauren Lindvall and Haley Cruse, while DJ Sanders brought Lilley home on a two-RBI shot to left just two batters later. Meanwhile, Oregon's defense turned two double plays, with the tying run at the plate in both situations. Megan Kleist, who scattered a season-high ten hits across six innings of three-run, five-strikeout ball, picked up the win. Miranda Elish earned her second save of the season by pitching a scoreless seventh inning.
