Oregon Softball Completes the Sweep of Stanford with 4-1 Win

#4 Oregon completed its second series sweep of the Pac 12 season with a 4-1 victory over unranked Stanford. Miranda Elish, who also started and won game 1 of the series, threw a complete game gem, giving up only 2 hits and striking out 10. Elish surrendered the Ducks' 1 run lead in the top of the fourth on a deep home run from Whitney Burks. The Ducks answered back quickly, putting up 3 runs in the bottom of the 4th inning behind a Haley Cruse single, and a pinch-hit long ball from Shannon Rhodes. Oregon will travel up to Seattle next week and take on the top-ranked Washington Huskies, in a series that will likely feature two matchups between Megan Kleist and Taran Alvelo, a couple of the great arms in college softball today. FB | Oregon Offense Bests Defense in Fast-Paced Spring Game

After a four-month hiatus, Oregon Football hosted their annual Spring Game at Autzen Stadium, with the offense - Team Thunder - beating Team Lightning and the defense 59-34. Though the game was played under different scoring rules than a typical football game, spectators were still treated to an offensive show, in large part thanks to  two redshirt freshmen, running backs C.J. Verdell and WR Daewood Davis. While offensive personnel rotated every possession, Verdell led all running backs with eight carries, totaling 44 yards and two touchdowns. Davis caught 3 passes for 75 yards and two touchdowns. Both freshmen accumulated their totals in the first half. Oregon's defense showed signs of improvement as well. After missing the latter half of the 2017 season, Kaulana Apelu made his presence felt, leading the defense with nine tackles and returning an interception for a 103-yard touchdown. With the offense's victory, the Ducks are done practicing until they reconvene in the fall.… Read More

The Ducks were red hot in the early innings, scoring 6 runs in the second inning, and then 1 run apiece in the fourth and fifth innings. Elish did end the night striking at 12 batters and only allowing 6 hits, but three Duck errors and some well-timed hits by the Cardinal kept Stanford from being mercy ruled. Following UCLA's 3-0 win over the nation's number one team the Washington Huskies, Oregon UCLA and Washington all have three losses.
