Oregon Volleyball Fights Hard, but Falls Short with 3-1 Loss to Wisconsin

Fans of Oregon Ducks volleyball (13-7, 4-6 Big Ten) sought shelter from the rain inside Matthew Knight Arena as the No. 12-ranked Wisconsin Badgers (15-3, 8-2 Big Ten) were in town to take on the Ducks on Sunday.

In the final moments of the match, the Ducks were down 2-1 and desperate to score three straight points to stay alive down 26-25 in the fourth set. As both teams rallied, the Badgers lobbed a set up, and from the trenches of the court, former Duck and senior outside hitter Mimi Colyer geared up and hammered a spike that found hardwood on the Oregon side and sealed the 3-1 win for Wisconsin.

One half of the two-headed monster for Oregon was freshman outside Alanah Clemente, who had 17 kills.

Oregon was coming off a needed sweep of the No. 25-ranked UCLA Bruins in Los Angeles on Wednesday. This was the Ducks’ second-ranked win of the season, the first being a 3-1 victory over the No. 18 Minnesota Golden Gophers on Oct. 17.

The Badgers were coming off…

The 2025 Oregon Ducks Define Big Ten Football

Big Ten football has long been defined by two things: 1) running the football, and 2) defending the run. When the great conference shift occurred a little over a year ago, it was certain that the scope of college football would be forever changed. With that, there were questions about how Oregon would fare in a new conference, no longer being exclusively grouped with fellow Pacific Coast schools that varied wildly in scheme.

Joining the Big Ten, Oregon entered a new scene of gritty, tenacious, and stout opponents that prided themselves on winning in the trenches and running teams into oblivion. No more representative of this identity are the Wisconsin Badgers, who have been part of the conference for 129 years and are one of its seven founding institutions. The Badgers (2-5, 0-4 Big Ten) made the trip to take on the No. 6 Oregon Ducks (6-1, 3-1 Big Ten) on Saturday, Oct. 25th, with the intentions of playing exactly that way, just as they did a year ago in a near upset of…

No. 6 Oregon trudges past Wisconsin 21-7 in soggy afternoon at Autzen

EUGENE, Ore. – For the second consecutive season,  No. 6 Oregon (7-1, 4-1 Big Ten) failed to find much offense against Wisconsin (2-6, 0-5 Big Ten) in its eighth-ever meeting against the Badgers. Nevertheless, behind a stifling defensive showing and another sold-out crowd at Autzen Stadium, the Ducks were able to overcome the rain and find the finish line on Saturday, improving to 5-3 all-time versus the men from Madison.

Harkening back to mid-November of last year, Oregon survived an upset bid from Wisconsin on the road at Camp-Randall Stadium, holding on to win 16-13. The 2025 edition of Ducks and Badgers saw more low-scoring football as Oregon, in its second season as a member of the Big Ten Conference, has only been able to muster 37 points (18.5 average) combined in the pair of meetings with the Badgers. Yet, against all other Big Ten opponents, the Ducks are averaging 36.3 points per game in their 11 regular-season contests.

“It became really apparent early…

In a Pass-Heavy World, the Thurston Colts Feed Off a Menacing Run Attack

The Eugene-Springfield area has been spoiled in riches with the headlining seven-headed monster backfield of the 2025 Oregon Ducks squad. While the numbers at the back end of the unit have dropped and the starters have shone deeper into the season, the big four of senior running back Noah Whittington (336 yards), freshman Dierre Hill Jr. (329 yards), freshman Jordan Davison (250 yards), and junior Jayden Limar (249 yards) have dominated college football.

It turns out this region of Oregon has this luxury at the high school level as well.

The Thurston Colts of Thurston High School, led by head coach Justin Starck in his 23rd season, have built a four-man running back room that terrorized the Special District 4 league of 5A Oregon high school football.

Early on in their game against the No. 25-ranked North Eugene Highlanders, sophomore running back Quinten Fisher took a handoff and bowled his way from the goal line into the endzone to give the Colts an early 6-0…

Thurston’s Fast Start Powers 26–6 Win and Home Playoff Berth

EUGENE, Ore. — A heavy pregame downpour soaked the seats and slicked the field, but there was still something electric in the air at North Eugene High School, where two teams from the same region and two very different seasons met on the gridiron.

The Thurston Colts (7–1) had taken a short 20-minute trip northwest into Eugene, riding a six-game win streak and an offense that had been nearly impossible to slow down.

Sophomore wideout Bodie Bonar – averaging 86 yards per game with seven touchdowns on the season – has stretched the field all season, while elusive junior running back Justin Fisher contributed 106 rushing yards per game despite his smaller frame. Junior quarterback Emmitt DiStefano has also kept it all composed with 16 touchdown passes and poised decision-making.

And although North Eugene (4-4) had entered on a two-game skid, the Highlanders were determined to send their seniors off with a statement, leaning on senior running back Riley…

Oregon Women's Soccer Secures Scoreless Draw on Senior Day

EUGENE, Ore. - On senior day for Oregon women’s soccer (2-10-5, 0-6-4 Big Ten), the Ducks took on the Minnesota Golden Gophers (6-7-3, 2-5-3 Big Ten) in a competitive matchup. In an evenly matched game, neither team could find the back of the net.

As the rain started to fall on Papé Field, Minnesota recorded the first shot in the eighth minute, with an attempt from Caroline Birdsell, but it went too high above the goal. Oregon’s first shot came off the boot of Miya Alamares in the 12th minute, but just like Birdsell’s shot, Alamares also shot high.

In the 18th minute, Minnesota’s Paige Kahal shot one in the bottom right corner, and Oregon goalkeeper Caeley Goldstein stopped it from finding the back of the net. Oregon responded in the 20th minute, with Taylor Bryan firing up top, but missed the target.

Lauren Kenny gave Oregon its best chance at scoring in the early portion of the match, but the Golden Gophers’ goalkeeper, Sarah Martin, was able to protect the goal…

The Ducks defeat Rutgers 56-10 in a coast-to-coast clash

Just under 3,000 miles separated two programs that met for the first time tonight under the lights. Coming into this game with hunger, the No. 8 Oregon Ducks (6-1, 3-1 Big Ten) paid a visit to SHI Stadium to face the Rutgers Scarlet Knights (3-4, 0-4 Big Ten).

The nation began to doubt the powerhouse team head coach Dan Lanning has built, entering Week 8. Their loss to No. 3 Indiana left people wondering what was going on with the Ducks, but with an offense that put up enough stats to fall into fourth all-time for a single game in program history, the Ducks proved the previous weekend to be a fluke.

“We said all week we're not chasing stats, we're chasing the standard. I thought our guys did a good job of that.” Lanning said, despite putting up a historic night in the books.

It was an immediate struggle on offense for the Ducks with a fumble by veteran wide receiver Gary Bryant Jr. that would’ve moved the chains on their first drive. The defense, led by an…

Oregon volleyball falls short of 151st ranked win against Penn State in four sets

After receiving their first-ranked win of the season against No. 18 Minnesota on Friday, Oregon (12-6, 3-4 Big Ten) went against No. 17 Penn State (11-7, 4-3 Big Ten) on Saturday at home court. Friday’s win was the Ducks’ 150th inside Matthew Knight Arena. The Ducks hoped Saturday would bring the 151st.

From the start of the first set, it was evident that both teams wanted this win. The energy was high on both sides of the court, and every time one team scored, the other answered back with a kill.

Opposite hitter Alanah Clemente managed to get the Ducks on the scoreboard first, slamming the ball onto the Nittany Lions’ side, Penn State scrambling for the ball but were unsuccessful in their attempt to keep the play alive. Clemente received eight kills this set, leading the Ducks in this category.

Throughout the entirety of the first set, it seemed as if both teams kept ping-ponging off of each other. It was a constant back and forth, not just with…

Thurston Football Notches 24 Second-Half Points and Secures 27-16 Win Over Churchill

After a stop back home last week, the No. 9-ranked Thurston Colts (8-1) headed back on the road to take on the No. 8-ranked Churchill Lancers (4-3) at Churchill High School with a 7:00 p.m. kickoff on Friday.

With time winding down in the first half and the score knotted at zero, Thurston and junior quarterback Emmit Distefano were chipping their way down the field, hunting for the first score of the defensive showcase. Around the 50-yard line, Distefano took the snap but was met with heavy pressure immediately. He rolled right, scanned and hurled the ball while being smothered, down the field and somehow found the leaping senior tight end Payton Ferriera.

The muscly tight end vaulted the shoulders of the smaller cornerback, snagged the ball, then held on as the traveling Thurston fans roared in excitement. This would only lead to a field goal to make it 3-0, but it sparked the scoring and eventually led to the 27-16 Colts victory.

Caeley Goldstein’s brick wall in goal shines through Oregon Women’s Soccer’s 1-0 loss to No. 15 Wisconsin.

EUGENE, Ore. - When a goalkeeper records over 6,705 career minutes in goal – good for second in the NCAA – fans might expect to see some high-level protection around the net. For Oregon women’s soccer (2-10-4, 0-6-3 Big Ten), sixth-year senior Caeley Goldstein has stepped into that role.

Thursday night at Pape Field saw the Ducks fall to the No. 15 Wisconsin Badgers (12-3-1, 6-2-1 Big Ten) by a final score of 1-0. Despite the outcome, Goldstein put on a standout performance in front of the home crowd with five saves on 14 shots and six shots on goal from the Badgers.

“We were super organized defensively,” Goldstein said. “We shut down a lot of opportunities, especially for a ranked team, so I’m proud of our defensive shape and organization.”

Despite the offensive struggles Oregon has faced this season – third to last place in the Big Ten in total goals – Goldstein has managed to keep the Ducks competitive with her defense. Against the Badgers, she…
