Football Story: The Ducks dominate the Beavers on both sides of the ball

Oregon and Oregon State football matched up for the 128th time on Saturday night. The game started with an energetic flyover and the Ducks started on defense.

On the first drive, Tysheem Johnson blocked a field goal attempt, which catapulted Oregon’s intensity for the rest of the game. The Ducks scored on every single drive, besides the two drives in which they kneeled to end each half. Oregon scored six touchdowns and two field goals with a two-point conversion on its second touchdown and held the Beavers scoreless in the second half which made the final score 49-14.

The Oregon offense was explosive — they had their way both on the ground and in the air. In the first half, the Ducks accumulated 217 yards on just 21 plays and just under nine minutes of possession. They scored touchdowns on all three full drives in the first half including a Jordan James four-yard run, a Dillon Gabriel 54-yard run and a Gabriel 20-yard pass…

Bushnell Volleyball Season Preview: Beacons Look to Make Another Push at a Cascade Collegiate Conference Title

To say the Beacons have started the season hot is a colossal understatement. The Beacons won their seventeenth consecutive match last Saturday, the longest streak in team history. Now heading into their home opener against Corban on Tuesday, they’ll have another chance to stamp their name in the record books. The Beacons’ seven consecutive match wins are tied for the most in Bushnell history and they will have a chance to break it against their conference rival.

“In the tournament before [the winning streak], we had a lot of errors on our side of the net. And in practice, we focused on controlling what we can control and controlling our half of the net. So, [head coach Jason Corwin] always talks about standard of play and maintaining that,” said junior Matty Ladd who was named First-Team All-CCC last year.

That standard of play culminated in a 15-11 regular season record and the No. 6 seed in the CCC tournament. Bushnell picked up a 3-0 home win over Oregon Tech in the…

Diagnosing the Ducks Through Two Weeks

Oregon drops in the rankings for a second straight week, despite securing its second straight win to begin the year.

“You have to start with the ‘W,’” head coach Dan Lanning said after Atticus Sappington’s game-winning kick versus Boise State on Saturday. Lanning kept things honest postgame, emphasizing the importance of the win and restating that the Ducks would be back to work.

So what exactly will the Ducks be working on? What can we take away from how the Ducks have played in 2024 so far? A clear problem is consistency. The team as a whole struggled to stack productive drives together. The explosive plays mysteriously missing from Oregon’s Week 1 were present Saturday night, but a first half full of punts and two costly fumbles late make it hard to feel confident in the Ducks offense. One player whom the Ducks relied heavily on for those explosive plays was Evan Stewart. After a quiet first week, Stewart led the team in receiving, including a touchdown and a 67-yard…

Football Story: Oregon squeaks past Idaho in season opener

The Ducks’ first game of the 2024 season was the beginning of their quest to win a National Championship — but Saturday’s outcome wasn’t what many expected it to be.

Oregon defeated Idaho 24-14 in a game where transfer quarterback Dillon Gabriel and the offense struggled.

“Stats are one thing, but we’re focused on winning,” Gabriel said. “A win’s a win, I’ll say that, but there’s a lot we need to improve on.”

The Ducks’ season kicked off on defense. The Vandals’ first drive lasted for three plays with two one-yard gains and an incomplete pass. Their next drive wasn’t any better, as it was also a shortlived possession that ended with a turnover on downs.

Gabriel went 6-for-7 and picked up 57 yards on his first drive in an Oregon uniform. It ended with seven points for the Ducks. Wide receiver Tez Johnson completed the seven-yard catch for the first Oregon scoring reception of the season.

“I just knew I wouldn’t have that success without my teammates.…

Oregon Football Season Preview: The Ducks kick off the Big Ten era on Saturday

Eugene, Ore. – So, how do I want to begin this? The dawn of a new day? A new era is upon us? Big things are happening? Alright, I’ll stop now. Let’s just keep it simple: Oregon, welcome to the Big Ten.

Now, three other universities can say the same thing as Oregon — those being UCLA, USC, and Washington. For the Ducks, however, it’s different. National championship expectations have become affiliated with the Ducks in now the third season of the Dan Lanning era. Oregon opens up the season at No. 3 in the country heading into Week One, their highest preseason ranking since 2014. Ohio State, which will travel to Eugene for a blockbuster matchup in Week Seven, is the only other Big Ten team ahead of Oregon at No. 2.

Big Ten Outlook

And then, there were two… at least for the PAC-12. Oregon State and Washington State remain the last ones standing in the broken conference, while the rest of the pack found new homes. Cal and Stanford jumped over to the crowded ACC, as…

Oregon Soccer Preview: The Ducks kick the season off with a pair of home games

Oregon is set to begin its 2024 season against Seattle University on Thursday at Papé Field. It will face off against Portland State University at home on Sunday before hitting the road for two games.

The Ducks will be facing several big changes in 2024, including a move to the Big Ten and a refreshed roster.

Oregon Ducks

Oregon is coming off a 2023 season in which it went 0-16-3. Part of the winless season was due to inexperience. The Ducks had 15 freshmen which ranked second among Power Five schools.

But head coach Graeme Abel hit the transfer portal hard in the offseason. Oregon welcomes 16 new players while losing 17 from last season. Seven of the transfers enter with previous NCAA Tournament experience. Fifth-year defender Makoto Nezu was part of the Santa Clara team that won the 2022 National Championship.

“The great thing this year is we don’t put as much pressure on the freshmen in order to have to contribute right away,” Abel said about the…
