McConaghie: Oregon soars on Senior Night -- securing statement win over No. 5 Mary Hardin-Baylor

On a night filled with emotion and excitement, the No. 4 Oregon acrobatics and tumbling (3-1) team took to the mat for one last time at home in a senior night showdown win over No. 5 Mary Hardin-Baylor (3-2). With the home crowd energy lifting them high, the Ducks made it a night to remember beating the Crusaders 275.180 to 256.005.

“It was an awesome atmosphere tonight,” senior Bethany Glick said. “Great energy all around and I feel like that really showed with our skills on the mat.”

Despite a season-low 37.15 in the compulsory event last Friday against Gannon University, Oregon soared to success and outscored the crusaders in all four heats.

“I feel like we were able to hone in on those small details,” Glick said. “Thinking about cleanliness and the really little things. That's kinda what we focused on this meet and we felt a lot more confident with that.”

Glick carried her team in the acro event with changes made by head coach Taylor Susnara to rework…

Ragel: Katie Flannery’s first career multi-homer game pushed the Ducks over the Huskies in Game 1

Oregon softball (25-2, 1-0 Big Ten) flew north and run-ruled the Washington Huskies (20-8, 0-1 Big Ten) 9-0 in the first of a three-game series to open Big Ten conference play.

Sophomore third-baseman Katie Flannery picked up her first career multi-homer game with two long balls and racked up five RBI in the win.

“I was just trying to see ball hit ball hard,” Katie Flannery said. “Our coaches do a lot of work with our scouts and our practice, so just trying to see what I can hit hard and just do that.”

Flannery went 2-for-3 at the plate with two home runs to go along with her five RBI. She took both of Washington’s pitchers yard, a two-run bomb off Husky starter Sophia Ramuno in the third, and another two-run homer off reliever Rylee Rehbein in the fifth.

“I felt like after the Mary Nutter she started to get hot,” head coach Melyssa Lombardi said. “From there [she] has been staying hot so I thought she did a really great job today.”

Flannery sported a…

Ducks compliment first Big Ten home game with 5-2 win against Minnesota

The Oregon Ducks (16-3, 4-0 Big Ten) seemed safe in the top of the ninth of Friday’s series opener at PK Park against the Minnesota Golden Gophers (7-9, 1-3 Big Ten). The Ducks were up 5-2 and had junior right-handed reliever Jason Reitz on the mound, who had put up a zero in the inning before.

The Gophers were looking to make it interesting though as they got the first two batters on. Sophomore right-handed reliever Cole Stokes then came in to replace Reitz, and showed his dominance by striking out the first batter he saw. He walked the next, though, and the bases were juiced. He got the next batter to pop out with no harm done to put Minnesota’s back against the wall.

Stokes fell behind in the count 2-0, but got right back in it with two consecutive strikes. On the next pitch, Stokes kicked, fired and delivered a nasty breaking ball that slid into the strike zone to ice the win for Oregon. Stokes let out a roar for the 16th win of the season for the Ducks…

No. 8 Oregon records ninth shutout of the season in 9-0 win

The Ducks flew north to Washington to play their former Pac-12 foe the Washington Huskies (20-8, 0-1 Big Ten). Oregon softball (25-2, 1-0 Big Ten) entered the weekend with the lowest ERA in seven innings of the Big Ten conference with an average 1.75 ERA.

Oregon came off of back-to-back shutouts over No. 8 Florida State in its two-game split during the Jane Sanders Classic where the Ducks finished 4-1 overall.

The Virginia Tech transfer Lyndsey Grein stepped into the circle and put on a show in the 9-0 shutout, allowing just two hits off of 99 total pitches.

Grein notched 11 strikeouts, marking her 103rd strikeout of the season and up in the running to jump from 15th in the nation to be tied for seventh.

On the offensive side of the pitch, sophomore third baseman Katie Flannery notched her first career multi-home run game with multiple RBI of her career.

At the top of the third, Flannery homered to right center field to send Kai Luschar and…

Oregon acrobatics and tumbling stays strong on senior night

The final home meet of the season ended with the Oregon Ducks (3-1) taking care of business at Matthew Knight Arena as they took on the Mary Hardin-Baylor Crusaders (3-2). In a rematch of the 2024 NCATA quarterfinals, which the Ducks also won, Oregon continued its domination against the Crusaders.

Acrobatics and tumbling meets are composed of six events - compulsory, acro, pyramid, toss, tumbling and the team routine — each with a varying number of heats. Every heat has a maximum of 10 points up for grabs, except the team routine, which has a maximum of 110 points up for grabs. The most a team could score in a single meet is 300 points.

The event begins with the compulsory event, where teams compete in four heats –- acro, pyramid, toss and tumbling — showcasing the same required set of skills with a predetermined start value of 10.00 points.

While there weren’t any wobbles this week, both teams made mistakes. The Crusaders and the Ducks didn’t break above 9.00…

Oregon baseball bounces back with efficient 16-6 victory against Grand Canyon

The Oregon Ducks (15-3) were feeling rejuvenated up 10-0 against the Grand Canyon Antelopes (12-5) at the bottom of the fourth inning. Ten runs is typically more than enough to secure a victory, but the Ducks weren’t done.

A scary sight for pitchers across the country was up to bat for Oregon: junior designated hitter Dominic Hellman.

Hellman fell behind in the count 1-2. On the next pitch, his eyes lit up as an off-speed pitch appeared to be spinning right into the sweet spot. The pitch hung over the plate, and Hellman slaughtered the two-run bomb into the back of the Antelopes bullpen in left field.

Hellman had the highlight of the 16-6 victory, but the offense was led by senior right fielder Jeffrey Heard, who was 3-for-5 with a double and four RBIs. The veterans on the team popped out in this game as Hellman, Jacob Walsh and Heard each had three hits.

“It instills confidence in everyone else,” Heard said. “We’re older guys, we’ve been through the ups and…

McConaghie: Big Ten Reality Check -- B1G mistakes cost the Ducks in conference opener to No. 20 Buckeyes

Oregon women’s lacrosse (5-3, 0-1 Big Ten) suffered its first home loss of the season in its Big Ten conference debut, falling to the No. 20 Ohio State Buckeyes (7-0, 1-0 Big Ten). The Buckeyes overwhelmed the Ducks, outscoring them by a three-to-one margin to dominate 20-6.

Oregon entered the matchup ranked in the NCAA’s top-10 for both draw control percentage and draw controls per game, but the matchup unfolded with a different story.

“They were just a little bit cleaner than us. They had less mistakes and I think that’s a team that’s gonna capitalize on any kind of mistakes,” head coach Jessica Drummond said. “Losing that ball and turnovers on our end of being able to give them second chance opportunities on offense to put that ball away, is what we want to make sure we limit in the future.”

The Buckeyes’ NCAA top three scoring defense was suffocating for Oregon, only allowing 14 shots on goal compared to the Buckeyes’ 30.

The Ducks struggled with…

Oregon women’s lacrosse faces an unfortunate 20-6 loss against No. 20 Ohio State

Rain and cloudy skies seemed to be an ominous warning for women’s Oregon lacrosse (5-3, 0-1 Big Ten)Wednesday against No. 20 Ohio State (7-0, 1-0 Big Ten). The grey and cold atmosphere set the mood for the entire game, much to the Ducks’ misfortune in a 20-6 defeat.

Wednesday’s was the Ducks’ first game within the Big Ten conference, something that they had high hopes for.

It was a tough start for Oregon in the first quarter. Ohio State managed to get on the scoreboard first only a minute-and-a-half into the game with a goal from Buckeye midfielder Kampbell Stone. Nearly three minutes after Stone’s goal, Ohio State scored yet again making it a 0-2 Ducks’ deficit early on in the game.

After a foul made by Ohio State, the Ducks were given their first opportunity to shorten the Buckeyes’ lead. Attacker Gabby Santucci had been the one to get Oregon’s first goal of the game, her first of many of the night, only trailing by one.

McConaghie: Oregon falls to GCU -- a setback or a wake-up call?

The No. 9 Oregon baseball team (14-3) saw its eleven-game win streak come to an end Tuesday night, falling to Grand Canyon University (12-4) in a tightly contested 4-2 loss.

After sweeping the USC Trojans on the road, Oregon returned to PK Park for a two-game midweek series against the unranked GCU.

However, the Ducks could not keep their momentum going and fell short of setting a program record for consecutive wins.

“We didn’t get the hit with two outs,” Oregon head coach Mark Wasikowski said. “We’ve been through the stretch that we’ve been winning here, and we didn’t get that hit today.”

Mason Neville launched the first pitch deep to left-center, giving Oregon an early lead.

Oregon starter Ian Umlandt dominated through six scoreless innings, but the tide turned in the seventh. Carson Ohland swung on the first pitch across the plate and took it deep to left field, sending the ball over the wall.

“He usually doesn’t beat himself,”…
