McConaghie: Noemie Glover and the Ducks’ Back-and-Forth Battle Against Purdue Was A Step Forward Despite the Loss

True sophomore opposite hitter Noemie Glover helped the No. 13 Oregon Ducks to stay neck-and-neck versus No. 8 Purdue Boilermakers through a tough five-set loss on Wednesday.

Coming off of a two-match win streak beating Michigan State and Michigan consecutively, Glover and the Ducks had hoped to use this momentum to stay undefeated for the rest of the regular season.

Oregon was looking for its first win against a top-10 opponent this season but ultimately fell short.

The Ducks entered the week having recorded double-digit blocks in five consecutive matches. Overall, the Ducks have now reached 10 or more blocks in 13 matches this season, nine of those coming during Big Ten play.

Glover tallied six block assists on Wednesday night to now put her season total at an impressive 86.

“I feel like I just have to come into the game knowing I have to score big points for our team to be…

No. 13 Oregon drops a five-set thriller to No. 9 Purdue in regular season home finale

After blowing a 2-0 set lead to No. 21 USC (20-9, 12-7 in Big Ten) in a five-set loss on Nov., 17, Oregon (21-7, 13-6 Big Ten) bounced back on its trip to the Michigan schools last weekend, sweeping both the Spartans (13-17, 6-13 in Big Ten) and Wolverines (17-13, 7-12 in Big Ten) on their home floors.

The Ducks followed that with another huge home matchup in their return to Eugene, Ore. — a date with the No. 9 Purdue Boilermakers (24-6, 15-4 in Big Ten) in the last regular season game at Matthew Knight Arena.

Oregon was 0-4 against top-10 opponents in the AVCA rankings coming into this match. Purdue was an opportunity for the Ducks to further solidify themselves as a top-16 team heading into the NCAA tournament.

Oregon opened the first set strong thanks to an active front line led by Mimi Colyer and Noemie Glover. Duck fans rose to their feet and gave the team some momentum after a long rally saw Oregon win the point…

Valleau: Keeshawn Barthelemy Has Been Back All Season — But Now He’s on Fire

Keeshawn Barthelemy needed a spark. After a gruesome lower leg injury that ended his 2023-24 campaign, he had high hopes of entering the new season fresh and free from injury. Those hopes were quickly blocked, as he started off the season shooting 1-for-8 against UC Riverside. He followed that up with another poor outing going 0-for-3 from the field against Montana.

This did not faze Barthelemy. Against the Portland Pilots on Nov. 12, Barthelemy exploded for 13 points and carried the Ducks to a comeback overtime victory. This included back-to-back 3-pointers with three minutes remaining that seemingly raised the Ducks from the grave and made it a 60-57 game, eventually leading to overtime and a Ducks win.

This was not a one-hit-wonder game. Against the Troy Trojans, Barthelemy led the team in scoring with 15, shooting an efficient 4-for-6 from the field and 3-for-4 from 3. On top of that, he was a perfect 4-for-4 from the line.

Nate Bittle and Jackson Shelstad fuel a massive comeback over the Beavers in Corvallis

Both the Ducks (5-0) and Beavers (4-1) men's basketball teams have looked stout to start the 2024-25 season, with the exception of Oregon’s poor shooting night against the University of Portland. With that said, neither team has faced a Power-Four test until tonight. This was an opportunity for both squads to show the college basketball world what their potential could be moving forward.

Oregon looked to continue its strong play after a wire-wire 82-61 point win over Troy last Sunday, a game that saw five Ducks reach double figures in scoring.

Oregon State looked to stay hot following its 70-51 point win over Cal State Fullerton last Friday, a contest in which guard Nate Kingz and forward Michael Rataj combined for 40 points.

Gill Coliseum was rocking out of the gate, as it should for a rivalry contest. The junior forward out of Augsburg, Germany, Michael Rataj, nailed two 3-pointers in the first four minutes and had the…

Hess: Supreme Cook is the extra piece Oregon needs to go far this season

Born and raised in East Orange, New Jersey. Supreme Cook has spent the majority of his life on the East Coast of the United States. After having spent his first three seasons at Fairfield University in Connecticut and his fourth at Georgetown, Cook decided to take his talents way out west to Oregon ahead of his fifth year of eligibility

When the news of Cook’s decision to transfer was announced, it was viewed as a big recruiting pickup for a Ducks team that was looking to fill a major absence at the forward position following the departure of star center N’Faly Dante last season. Standing at a tall six-foot-nine and averaging a consistent 10 points and 7.6 rebounds over his four-year career, Cook is expected to be a key contributor in Oregon’s 2024-25 campaign.

However, Cook began the season unable to play due to a knee injury which saw him miss the first three games. It wasn’t until this past Sunday afternoon in a game against the Troy…

Oregon Men's Basketball Handles Troy at Home to Advance to 4-0

Oregon benefitted from another cohesive team performance, where only center Nate Bittle shot the ball more than nine times. Sharing the love and playing team basketball leads this team to more dominant wins as it did on Sunday. When asked about the efficient night, head coach Dana Altman said the following.

“We’re just trying to find our tempo, and what we need to look for from three,” Altman said.

The biggest difference between Sunday’s game and the last game against Portland was the patience shown and the team’s ability to wait for the right shot. Against the Pilots, shots were forced and the team looked uncomfortable settling for contested looks. Sunday, the Ducks fought to move the ball.

The Ducks set the tone early with aggressive and relentless defense. Troy was unable to get good looks at the rim early, turning the ball over and miscommunicating posed a problem in the first five minutes. Oregon started the game with…
