SB: Ducks Down Dawgs in 5-3 Win to Sweep Series

No. 2 Oregon Softball ended an exhilarating series in Seattle with a 5-3 win over no. 4 Washington, clinching the sweep of the Huskies Sunday afternoon. Despite falling behind early for the third consecutive game, the Ducks yet again pushed the right buttons in a come-from-behind win thanks to five runs off Washington starter Gabbie Plain in the third inning. Jenna Lilley knocked the first two of those five with a double off the right field wall that scored Lauren Lindvall and Haley Cruse, while DJ Sanders brought Lilley home on a two-RBI shot to left just two batters later. Meanwhile, Oregon's defense turned two double plays, with the tying run at the plate in both situations. Megan Kleist, who scattered a season-high ten hits across six innings of three-run, five-strikeout ball, picked up the win. Miranda Elish earned her second save of the season by pitching a scoreless seventh inning. The Ducks are now 41-7 on the year and 15-3 in conference play, which ties the squad with UCLA… Read More

BSB: Ducks Win Extra Inning Thriller Over USC

After the USC Trojans won Game 1 and the Oregon Ducks took Game 2, the rubber match Sunday afternoon was bound to be a good one and it was exactly that. Oregon starting pitcher Kolby Somers pitched 6.1 innings allowing 2 hits and no runs. The Ducks struck first in the bottom half of the first inning as Spencer Steer hit a sac fly to right field to score Jacob Goldfarb. In innings 2 through 9, the Ducks went ice cold going 2-22 from the plate. Their 1-0 lead lasted until the top of the ninth until Oregon relief pitcher Ryne Nelson gave up a Matthew Acosta single to CF to tie the game up at 1 a piece. The Ducks threatened in the bottom half, but could not push any runs across. However, in the bottom of the tenth inning, Ray Soderman laced a laser shot to the right field corner to score Daniel Patzlaff and walk off with a 2-1 win to earn their first Sunday win in Pac 12 play and clinch the series. The win moves Oregon to 21-20 and 8-13 in conference play. The Ducks will look to make… Read More

BSB: Oregon Dominates USC 9-2 Behind Dominant Pitching Performance from Kenyon Yovan

The Oregon Ducks took down the USC Trojans 9-2 on Saturday to tie the series at 1-1. Oregon was led by Kenyon Yovan, who pitched eight innings, giving up just two runs and throwing an impressive 15 K's. Rain played a big factor in this one, as the game was delayed for 31 minutes in the bottom of the fourth inning. In that same inning, the Ducks got through their entire order and scored 5 runs. The rainy weather seemed to bother the Trojans all game long, as Oregon earned a majority of their runs of walks, passed balls, and errors. In total, the Trojans three pitchers gave up 13 walks and threw five wild pitches. Oregon only won the hitting battle eight hits to six, but all the mistakes allowed the Ducks to get on base, and they capitalized. Oregon will look to win the series on Sunday at noon, before hosting the Oregon State Beavers on Tuesday. Game Story (by Sean MacPherson)Read More

SB: Oregon Takes Series over Washington in Back and Forth 4-2 Win

No. 2 Oregon Softball followed Friday night's 7-2, extra inning victory over no. 4 Washington with a tight 4-2 win in Seattle Saturday afternoon. The Ducks clawed their way in front in the top of the first 1-0, but quickly trailed after Huskies' left fielder Julia DePonte launched a two-run shot over the fence off UO starter Miranda Elish in the bottom of the frame. Fortunately for the Ducks, Elish would not relinquish another run in the game, finishing with seven hits, two runs, three walks and seven strikeouts in seven full innings. Second baseman Lauren Lindvall tacked the win onto Elish's line with a two-run big fly of her own in the fourth inning, and further secured the result with an RBI single to shortstop in the sixth. The win moves Oregon to 40-7 on the year, and has them a half game back of UCLA in the Pac-12 standings. The Ducks will tie the Bruins if they win Sunday's game, slated to start at 1 PM, to finish off the sweep. GAME STORY (by… Read More
