BSB | Oregon Continues To Allow Big Innings In Blowout Loss

Oregon(10-7, 0-2 PAC-12) came into today's game looking to bounce back from yesterday's 9-3 loss, but instead fell victim to big innings once again, going down to Washington again by a score of 19-3. Sophomore righty Robert Ahlstrom made his second career start, going four innings and allowing six earned runs, while striking out five and walking three. He got a lot of fly balls, inducing 6 flyouts, but otherwise seemed to struggle with his command high in the zone.

The bullpen seemed to struggle keeping runs off the board also, allowing 11 earned runs over the final five innings. Oregon pitching in general seemed to struggle with avoiding huge innings, allowing five runs in the third, four runs in the eighth, and six runs in the ninth.

The Oregon offense remained dormant for the second straight game, only totaling seven hits, with nothing longer than a single. Two bright spots, however, were leadoff hitter Sam Novitske and leftfielder Taylor Adams. Novitske went…

BSB | Washington Bats Come Alive in Ducks' PAC-12 Opener

Both Oregon (10-6) and Washington(10-4) came into PK Park Friday night looking good. On the mound, Sophomore Cullen Kafka came in with a 3.47 ERA, and a 2-0 record in four appearances. Although he allowed seven hits through his first four innings, Kafka managed to hold the Huskies to just two runs with his 7 ground outs. In the fifth inning the Huskies torched the plate, scoring five runs on a fatigued Kafka.

With two outs Kafka was replaced by the left-handed Sophomore Kolby Somers who finished off the inning. Oregon’s pitching struggles continued with Somers, who only threw .1 innings but walked 2 batters and was quickly replaced.

After a solid start, the Ducks hitting disappeared as the game progressed into the later innings. The hot-hitting Gabe Matthews started off with a powerful double down the left field line, but failed to produce any more hits.

Up Next: Oregon plays Washington for the second time in a three game series tomorrow at 4 p.m. as…
