WBB | UCLA Completes a Second Half Surge to Take Down Oregon 74-69

In No. 2 Oregon’s first full game without perennial starter, Ruthy Hebard, the Ducks took on the 16-10 UCLA Bruins. In a night that had as many tears as it did raindrops, the Bruins pulled off the improbable upset and beat the Ducks 74-69.

After a rocky start to the game, highlighted by turnovers and sloppy play from both sides. The Ducks took a 7-5 lead off a deep 3-pointer from Maite Cazorla. The Ducks eventually cleaned up their turnovers and started to put the pressure on the Bruins. Erin Boley and Cazorla were the primary benefactors of what was a great passing display by the Ducks. Boley and Cazorla finished the half with 16 and 9 points respectively, and Sabrina Ionescu chipped in with 6 points and 6 smooth dimes at the break. UCLA got the looks that they wanted to on the offensive end, but the shots refused to fall for the Bruins. BSB | Ducks' Pitching Stifles Gael's Offense in Home-Opener

After a promising opening weekend of baseball in Lubbock, the Ducks opened up at home against the Saint Mary's Gaels, a team fresh off a four-game sweet against Washington State. The first four innings featured a pitching dual between a pair of juniors who refused to give up a run. Oregon's Cole Stringer only allowed three hits in six innings of work, but one of those hits was a double by Kevin Milam that brought Joe Vranesh home for the game's first run. This was the only run Stringer gave up, having also tallied six strikeouts and two walks to his total line.

Saint Mary's ace Ken Waldichuk looked like he was in mid-season form, striking out eight Duck-batters, including clean-up hitter Gabe Matthews three times. It appeared that Waldichuk was cruising into the sixth, but a walk and two hit-batters later forced him into a jam. Jakob Goldfarb capitalized on a soft single to shallow left field that drove in two runs to give Oregon its first lead.

SB | Oregon Up-and-Down in Mary Nutter Opening Day

No. 17 Oregon Softball split their first day of the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic on Thursday, February 21, taking down New Mexico State 3-1 before dropping a game to Bethune-Cookman in a 5-3 finish. Jordan Dail recorded a complete game win against the Aggies in the first game, while Maddie MacGrandle inconsistency forced Dail back into action during the second game. From the plate, Oregon struggled to find a big inning, and while three runs proved enough against NMSU, Bethune-Cookman opened up a 5-0 that the Ducks couldn't quite carve into enough. UO returns to action on Friday at 12:30 PM vs Army, before a Texas A&M - Texas Tech double-header on Saturday and a showdown with UCSB on Sunday.

AUDIO: Oregon Baseball Set for Home Opener

After a 1-2 opening weekend road trip to No. 8 Texas Tech, Oregon baseball returns to Eugene for a four-game home opening series against St. Mary's. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. on Friday at PK Park. Despite dropping the series to the Red Raiders, the Ducks held early leads in all three games but couldn't sustain the home team's rallies. With early confidence already brewing at the plate, head coach George Horton and Oregon look to put both phases together this weekend before its own home crowd. But they'll need to do so without the regular starting rotation on the mound, with Kenyon Yovan struggling with hand discomfort Cole Stringer will start Friday's series opener instead. Listen below as Horton and the Ducks preview this weekend's series.
