AUDIO: Oregon Softball Taking Positives into Arizona Trip
Times have been rough for Oregon Softball the past couple of weeks. After an impressive first two weeks to the season helped the team to the no. 17 ranking in the NFCA Poll, the Ducks have gone 4-8, taking six straight losses the past couple of weeks while dropping out of the top 25 for the first time in years. However, with five of those six losses coming by three runs or less, and three of them by only a single run, Oregon seems to feel comfortable with themselves on the eve of Pac-12 play. Though the Ducks have the hardest start to the conference slate, heading to no. 12 Arizona for three this weekend before returning home against no. 5 Washington at the end of March, head coach Melyssa Lombardi believes her team is on the cusp of breaking through. Oregon football hit the practice fields for its third practice of the 2019 spring season on Wednesday morning as the defense continues its work towards becoming a cohesive unit under new defensive coordinator Andy Avalos. Returning for the Ducks is now co-defensive coordinator Keith Hayward, who is tasked with helping coach the safeties and meshing the back-end of the defense with the front. Also new to the staff from Washington State is linebacker's coach Kent Wilson, listen below as both coaches spoke with the media following Wednesday's practice.
