BSB | Steer’s record setting night not enough for the Ducks to take down number one Bruins

Oregon (27-28, 10-18 Pac-12) keeps it close with UCLA (46-8, 22-5 Pac-12) but ultimately fall late to the number one team in the country 4-2 Thursday night. Ducks pitcher Robert Ahlstrom got the start and went 7.1 innings and set a career high in strikeouts with 9. Ahlstrom was taken out in favor of junior pitcher Ryne Nelson, who didn’t have his best night, entering the 2-2 stalemate in the eighth inning only to allow a home run on his first pitch which UCLA first basemen hammered over the left field wall which gave the Bruins a 4-2 lead. Toglia’s home run was enough for the Bruins to see out the win and give undefeated pitcher Ryan Garcia his ninth win of the season; nonetheless, his impressive 1.30 ERA will go up just a few points to 1.42 as the Ducks put up two earned runs on the right-handed pitcher.
