The Ducks took on the Cal Golden Bears again at home today in sunny Eugene. Oregon, after getting battered yesterday by a score of 13-1, looked to get back on the winning track and even up the series at one apiece going into Sunday. Both teams got off to a slow start however as it was scoreless through the first 2 innings. Grinsell started on the mound for the Ducks, and with his team-leading 18 strikeouts, he looked to lock up the Golden Bears as much as possible. Grinsell took the Ducks through 6 innings, setting a new season high, and recorded 9 strikeouts while only giving up 1 run and 1 hit.

Oregon was able to build some momentum off of Grinsell as they got walked around in the 3rd to bring home one. Then, in the 4th the Ducks exploded for a big four-run inning that was jump-started by freshman Ryan Cooney who launched a 2 run HR down the left field line. EUGENE, Ore. – The Golden Bears of Cal got out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back as they took down the Ducks 13-1 on Friday night to open the weekend series.

Oregon, coming into Friday at 11-5, had dropped the mid-week match back on Tuesday against Portland in an eye-opening 15-5 loss. The pitching woes largely continued inside PK Park on Friday. 

Junior RJ Gordon got the start on the mound for the Ducks in what would become his worst outing so far on the season. Gordon went five innings giving up six earned runs on seven hits, three of which were round trippers. The Junior catcher for the Golden Bears, Caleb Lomavita, took Gordon deep twice, with the first being a two-run shot in the opening inning, and the other being a solo shot in the top of the fifth en route to a 3-5 day at the plate.

Two Freshman for California, PJ Moutzouridis and Matthew Thomas, each went deep as well.…

Oregon Lacrosse has completely turned around the program and the work has shown. This non-conference season, Oregon went 6-1, already eclipsing more wins than last season. Oregon has outscored its opponents 111 to 59. To close off non-conference play Oregon defeated Furman 18-7. On paper, Oregon should win the Pac-12 opener against Cal handily. Cal is coming into its final non-conference game against Butler with a 2-5 record. So far, Cal has scored 65 goals to its opponents’ 68.

Players to watch – Oregon:

Players to keep an eye on for Oregon are midfielder Anna Simmons, attacker Lauren Rismani and midfielder Morgan McCarthy. Rismani is the general of this team’s offense. Almost every play is run through either three of these players, all three have a “sense” of this game that Oregon hasn’t seen for a while. McCarthy was the star of last season’s team, scoring 37 goals. This season, McCarthy already has 22 goals,…

Oregon bounced back and won the last two games of the series after losing the first one. The Ducks are ranked again after falling out last week, breaking their 59 week streak of being in the top 25. 

The pitching from the Ducks has stayed consistently really good. On the backs of Morgan Scott, Taylour Spencer, and Stevie Hansen, Oregon is averaging a 2.58 ERA and have struck out 91 batters. The Ducks defensively have had only nine errors on over 600 defensive attempts, while they have forced 26 errors from their opponents.
