Ohwobete, Cline, and Company Combine to Take Down the Bruins in a Quick Sweep for No. 10 Oregon

Wednesday, Oct. 30 saw the Ducks drop a close five-set match in Seattle to the Pacific Northwest rival Washington Huskies. Three days later, No. 10 Oregon got back on track with a dominant three-set sweep over the UCLA Bruins, improving its season record to 17-4 and 9-3 in conference play.

The first set kicked off going back and forth with the Ducks holding a 9-6 point lead. It was here Oregon rattled off a seven point scoring run thanks to five Bruin attacking errors. Oregon didn't look back and coasted to a 25-12 blowout win in Set 1 because of UCLA’s attacking blunders, 13 total errors from the Bruins through the first set — a number that top teams in the nation would struggle to come back from.

The Bruins looked to be hitting hibernation in set one but Set 2 saw them get hungry. They gave the Ducks a bout in the second set after cleaning up their attacking errors.

Once UCLA got its offense rolling it became…

No. 11 Oregon Flies High Over Rutgers for a Home Stand Sweep

The No. 11 Oregon Ducks (16-3, 8-2 Big Ten) came into Sunday looking to play a clean and efficient game against a feisty Rutgers Scarlet Knights (5-16, 0-10 Big Ten) team that has struggled as of late.

The Ducks opened up the first set with a 6-1 rally, immediately putting Rutgers on its backfoot. Rutgers would not let Oregon pull away, though, and eventually, the Scarlet Knights rallied to hold a three-point lead over the Ducks as they reached the 20-point milestone.

The Ducks would remain resilient and coming out of a timeout pep talk from head coach Matt Ulmer, the team appeared rejuvenated as they began to lean on their offensive firepower that had been so far lacking.

Led by star junior Mimi Colyer, the Ducks flew around the court, rattling off a series of kills that snatched a Set 1 victory from the hands of the Scarlet Knights.

Strong upfront play by Duck middle blocker Onye…

Hardrict: Mimi Colyer and Onye Ofoegbu at their best makes Oregon unbeatable

On Sunday afternoon, the No. 11 Oregon Ducks (16-3, 8-2 Big Ten) completed their second straight sweep against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights (5-16, 0-10 Big Ten).

Onye Ofoegbu and Mimi Colyer each finished with 12 kills. Ofoegbu dominated the second set with multiple kills and forced errors. Colyer’s serves caused many aces and service errors throughout the match.

After the game, head coach Matt Ulmer spoke about the depth of the team and how Ofoegbu got involved so early in the match.

“We’re blessed to have the depth that we have. Robbie [Purashaj] got Onye involved right away,” Ulmer said. “I think Onye had seven kills in the first set, which I don’t remember the last time she had that. Onye was really involved, was really working in the middle, just changing our offense when that happens.”

Ofoegbu has played well all season just like Colyer. The redshirt senior transfer from UC Irvine has a total…

Dillon Gabriel Good Again, No. 1 Ducks Dominate in 38-9 Win Over Illinois

EUGENE, Ore. — For the first time since 2012, the Oregon Ducks found themselves atop the Associated Press Poll rankings. The last game they found themselves in the pole position was one to forget. Oregon was upset at home by, at the time, No. 14 Stanford 17-14 in overtime almost a dozen years ago. Head coach Dan Lanning and his Ducks team were determined to not let history repeat itself.

In an interview earlier this week, Lanning was asked about how he felt for his team to be ranked No. 1. He gave a simple response.

“Who cares.”

While Oregon blocked out the buzz of the media, it turned its attention to a Top-20 showdown against the No. 20 Illinois Fighting Illini. It was the first game back at Autzen Stadium since two weeks ago when Oregon ousted No. 2 Ohio State 32-31 in epic fashion. This week’s test was passed with flying colors as the Ducks dominated the first half from the opening kickoff all the way to the halftime…

Hardrict: Mimi Colyer's leadership continues to be the difference-maker for the Ducks

Outside hitter Mimi Colyer stepped up to the task in the match featuring the No. 11 Oregon Ducks (15-3, 7-2 Big Ten) and the unranked Maryland Terrapins (10-10, 1-8 Big Ten).  Colyer provided a huge spark and gave the Ducks momentum throughout the match.

Colyer finished with a game-high 20 kills and 36 assists, dominating throughout the match. The Terrapins had no answer for her.

After the game, head coach Matt Ulmer spoke about Colyer.

“Because Mimi has been scoring so well, it gives us more opportunities in the backside for Michelle [Ohwobete] and Cristin [Cline],” Ulmer said.

Colyer has played well all season, averaging 4.2 kills per set and a .265 hit percentage. Colyer’s performances always spread throughout the rest of the team.

“When I am aggressive it gives more opportunities to my teammates,” Colyer said. “It opens up the middle and the back…

No. 11 Oregon Takes Care of Business at Home, Sweeping Maryland

No. 11 Oregon volleyball (15-3, 7-2 Big Ten) returned home for its first-ever matchup against Maryland (10-10, 1-8 Big Ten) following a two-game road trip split with Iowa and No. 9 Wisconsin. Despite early offensive struggles, the Ducks were able to take care of business sweeping the Terrapins in straight sets, 25-21, 26-24 and 25-17.

Maryland silenced the Oregon home crowd early in the first set. The Terrapins led 6-2 and forced Oregon head coach Matt Ulmer to burn a timeout. However, a typical Duck hot streak following a timeout was nowhere to be found at least not yet.

Samantha Schnitta had three of the first six kills for Maryland which helped them come out with more intensity than Oregon. The Terrapins hit .700% while holding the Ducks to a .111 hitting percentage. Maryland led 15-10 at this point and was playing with confidence.

“We gave them a lot of hope early on, you don't want anybody to feel comfortable in your…
