Oregon extends win streak to eight matches after smothering its rival Beavers 3-0 at home

Eugene, OR -- No. 12 Oregon volleyball returned to Matthew Knight Arena on Sunday after a long road trip and produced a dominant performance to pick up its eighth straight win entering conference play. The Ducks finished the match with significant advantages in kills (42 to 24), hitting percentage (.351 to -.029) and blocks (14 to one).

“I thought it was our most complete match of the year. We were very consistent throughout. I thought we controlled the ball better,” head coach Matt Ulmer said at the top of his press conference. “As you can see, our block is pretty dynamic and can really mess with a lot of people.”

The Ducks' front wall seemed impenetrable at times as Noemie Glover and Onye Ofoegbu shined in the front row as Glover had a career-high 10 total blocks and Ofoegbu a season-high of eight.

Glover credits her team’s work on “hand positioning” on blocks in practice. “Sometimes we think because we jump so…

Thurston Colts demolish Springfield Millers in gritty rivalry game

The last time Kyle Miller touched the football field as a quarterback he was still a freshman, a young dual-threat athlete looking to light up the field on Friday nights. That was three years ago for Miller, slinging the ball on junior varsity and being the starter for the Thurston Colts.

Three years later on a random Monday night, Miller was asked to once again suit up as the starting quarterback for Thurston's rival game against Springfield. Miller faced this challenge head on after not seeing the field at quarterback for three years.

“When he found out he would start tonight, he didn’t flinch,” head coach Justin Starck said. “The confidence he had after not playing (quarterback) for two years, and jump out there in a big game, gives confidence to everyone.”

The Thurston Colts had a record of 3-0 before this rival match with Springfield High School, who were 0-3. The distance between Thurston and Springfield…

Football Story: The Ducks dominate the Beavers on both sides of the ball

Oregon and Oregon State football matched up for the 128th time on Saturday night. The game started with an energetic flyover and the Ducks started on defense.

On the first drive, Tysheem Johnson blocked a field goal attempt, which catapulted Oregon’s intensity for the rest of the game. The Ducks scored on every single drive, besides the two drives in which they kneeled to end each half. Oregon scored six touchdowns and two field goals with a two-point conversion on its second touchdown and held the Beavers scoreless in the second half which made the final score 49-14.

The Oregon offense was explosive — they had their way both on the ground and in the air. In the first half, the Ducks accumulated 217 yards on just 21 plays and just under nine minutes of possession. They scored touchdowns on all three full drives in the first half including a Jordan James four-yard run, a Dillon Gabriel 54-yard run and a Gabriel 20-yard pass…

Bushnell Volleyball Season Preview: Beacons Look to Make Another Push at a Cascade Collegiate Conference Title

To say the Beacons have started the season hot is a colossal understatement. The Beacons won their seventeenth consecutive match last Saturday, the longest streak in team history. Now heading into their home opener against Corban on Tuesday, they’ll have another chance to stamp their name in the record books. The Beacons’ seven consecutive match wins are tied for the most in Bushnell history and they will have a chance to break it against their conference rival.

“In the tournament before [the winning streak], we had a lot of errors on our side of the net. And in practice, we focused on controlling what we can control and controlling our half of the net. So, [head coach Jason Corwin] always talks about standard of play and maintaining that,” said junior Matty Ladd who was named First-Team All-CCC last year.

That standard of play culminated in a 15-11 regular season record and the No. 6 seed in the CCC tournament. Bushnell picked up a 3-0 home win over Oregon Tech in the…

Diagnosing the Ducks Through Two Weeks

Oregon drops in the rankings for a second straight week, despite securing its second straight win to begin the year.

“You have to start with the ‘W,’” head coach Dan Lanning said after Atticus Sappington’s game-winning kick versus Boise State on Saturday. Lanning kept things honest postgame, emphasizing the importance of the win and restating that the Ducks would be back to work.

So what exactly will the Ducks be working on? What can we take away from how the Ducks have played in 2024 so far? A clear problem is consistency. The team as a whole struggled to stack productive drives together. The explosive plays mysteriously missing from Oregon’s Week 1 were present Saturday night, but a first half full of punts and two costly fumbles late make it hard to feel confident in the Ducks offense. One player whom the Ducks relied heavily on for those explosive plays was Evan Stewart. After a quiet first week, Stewart led the team in receiving, including a touchdown and a 67-yard…
