After coming off a successful Jane Sanders tournament, Oregon will host No. 17 California at home to kick off conference play for the season. This will be one of Oregon’s tougher challenges this season. California has been very successful this season and is currently on a four-game winning streak.

Oregon hasn’t been having the season that it has hoped for so far, coming into the game with a 12-8 record. Although it isn't currently ranked nationally, it did receive eight votes this past week. However, it is ranked eighth in the Pac-12, without any conference play. It has also lost some close games to notable teams, such as No. 11 Clemson (lost 2-3) and No. 17 Texas A&M (lost 1-4 and 0-2).

The Ducks entered the match-up with a 19-10 record, after suffering a loss on the road against No. 6 Arizona. The team is coming off a devastating 20-point loss to the Arizona Wildcats and a win against Oregon State in last weekend's games. Jermaine Couisnard has surpassed N’faly Dante as the leading scorer on the team with 15.5 points per game. He also is averaging more minutes played per game than anybody with 32.8 minutes of playing time. Despite being passed in scoring, Dante still is averaging 8.5 rebounds a game, nearly double that of the second-best.

The mountain teams are looking to capitalize on Oregon's injuries. Colorado has a 20-9 record coming into the weekend. KJ Simpson is currently averaging 19.9 points per game. On the defensive side, Eddie Lampkin Jr. is averaging seven rebounds a game with an overall strong squad.

After losing their first game of the season at Rutgers the Ducks came into this game against Merrimack looking to spark some energy, and that they did. Anna Simmons opened the first three minutes of the game with a hat trick, you read that right, three goals in the first three minutes. After going scoreless against Rutgers Simmons put up a team high six goals in their win over Merrimack. “Cudios to the offense!” Said Simmons in her post-game interview.

Following Simmons' hot start the team kept the momentum rolling. Four more goals would follow in the first quarter. Morgan McCarthy netted two while Lauren Rismani and Katie Collins each scored once. Stellar defense in the first quarter set the tone for the rest of the game. Only allowing three shots from Merrimack in the first frame. At the end of one Oregon held a commanding 7-0 lead with all the energy in their favor.

It’s now March, and that means it’s time for the most exciting part of the year: postseason basketball. With the amount of talent in the Pac-12 this year (two ranked teams didn’t even get a bye), this tournament has a pretty good chance of being the most exciting of all 32 conference tournaments. Let’s preview the first-round matchups:

Coming into the Pac-12 Tournament with a program-record 13-game losing streak, the Oregon Ducks take the unenviable spot of being the 12th and last seed. The Ducks are led by their big three of guard Chance Gray, forward Grace VanSlooten, and center Phillipena Kyei. Each is averaging over 12 points per game this season.
