Here To Stay: Oregon Softball Proves Dominance in Big Ten

In their first year of Big Ten Conference play, No. 3 Oregon softball (47-6, 19-3 Big Ten) proved outright that it can handle the competition.

How did the Ducks do it?

To start out the season, Oregon went on a five-game win streak at the UNLV Classic, beating every opponent by a margin of at least four runs every game. This set the tone for the season, starting out with much-needed momentum.

The first challenge came at the Littlewood Classic, when Oregon fell to former Pac-12 rival, Arizona State, in an extra-inning battle ultimately ending in a 4-3 loss.

The problem came at the plate, as the Sun Devils would not allow the Ducks to hit after the fourth inning.

Something shifted for the Ducks after this and the team would go on a 16-game win streak. But all good things must come to an end.

After going undefeated in the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic and Oregon Classic Torunaments, the second loss of the season was a huge blow by another…

No. 3 Oregon takes the game and the final regular season series against Michigan State 7-6

The Senior Day ceremony started before the game even began, with the ceremonial first pitch, or more accurately, first six pitches, coming from family members of the graduating seniors, Staci Chambers, Abby Mulvey, Paige Sinicki, Kai and Kedre Luschar, and Dezianna Patmon. Then, the action really got started, with a game defined by home runs.

The Lion’s Den was packed with fans and action as the No. 3 Oregon Ducks (47-6, 19-3 Big Ten) finished off the regular season against the Michigan State Spartans (16-29, 6-16 Big Ten) with a win, knocking them off by a score of 7-6 and taking the series in the rubber match.

Oregon starting pitcher Lyndsey Grein (2 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 4 K, 1 BB) started off firing on all cylinders with two strikeouts to begin the game in the top of the first inning.

Michigan State starting pitcher Madison Taylor (2 1/3 IP, 4 H, 5 ER, 3 K, 4 BB) walked Kai Luschar to start the rubber match. Then, Luschar stole second to make it 52 on the season and…

Another Title for the Ducks After 14-0 Win Over Michigan State

The Oregon Ducks (46-6, 18-3 Big Ten) defeated the Michigan State Spartans (16-28, 6-15 Big Ten) 14-0 to win the Big Ten regular-season title. It was the sixth Big Ten championship for the university in its first year in the conference.

At the top of the first inning, Elise Sokolsky retired the first three batters in order. She pitched 5 ⅔  innings with only one earned run in the 6-4 loss to the Spartans on Friday.

“We asked her today to come in and see if she could take care of business,” head coach Melyssa Lombardi said of her starter. “I really like how efficient she was.”

Ducks leadoff hitter Kai Luschar drew a walk. The next batter, Paige Sinicki, dropped down a bunt and reached safely. Luschar’s speed and awareness allowed her to advance to third, where no one was covering the base. In the chaos, Sinicki advanced to second. Kedre Luschar then came up and hit a fly ball to left field. Michigan State’s Kendall Smiley made an impressive diving…

Ducks Softball Drop Game 1 to Spartans

Friday, No. 3 Oregon softball (45-6,17-3 Big Ten) welcomed in the Michigan State Spartans (16-27, 6-14 Big Ten) to conclude regular season play with a three-game series at Jane Sanders Stadium.

The old saying goes, the bigger they are, the harder they fall, and that’s the best descriptor for Oregon’s 6-4 loss to Michigan State.

The Ducks entered the weekend atop the conference standings, and one win away from clinching a regular-season conference championship title in their first year in the Big Ten.

Oregon’s captain in the circle, RHP Lyndsey Grein, entered the weekend with the best record in the nation at 26-1 with three saves. Grein also ranked 3rd in the Big Ten with 184 total strikeouts, and carried the lowest ERA in the Big Ten at just 1.52 Earned Runs Allowed per seven innings.

The Spartans came into Jane Sanders Stadium yet to accomplish an overall series victory, and sat at fourteenth in the Big Ten Standings. On the line for…

Wehrly: The Spirit of the Mighty Duck is Strong in Oregon Baseball

Oregon State and University of Oregon’s rivalry date is one of the oldest in the nation, dating all the way back to 1894. So it’s safe to say every game against the Beavers is always highly anticipated by Ducks and Beaver fans alike.

We all know the spirit of the mighty Ducks runs in every University of Oregon student's veins, and Oregon baseball truly channeled its energy.

No. 13 Oregon baseball (30-12, 14-7 Big Ten) played Game 3 against No. 3 Oregon State (32-10) this Sunday with high hopes of sweeping their main rival at home. The Ducks won their two prior games on Friday and Saturday, where they broke the Beavers’ 12-game win streak in Game 1 and swept the Beavers with a 13-1 win in Game 2.

“We had three sellouts,” head coach Mark Wasikowski said when asked how the energy in the stands contributed to the energy out on the field. “Yesterday and today's umpire both said that this was the most incredible environment they’ve been in on the…

No. 13 Oregon baseball takes down No. 3 Oregon State 3-2 in the weekend finale

At the top of the ninth inning of the Sunday, Apr. 27 rivalry weekend finale, the No. 13 ranked Oregon Ducks (30-12, 14-7 Big Ten) were one out away from a sweep of their in-state rival, the No. 3 ranked Oregon State Beavers (32-10).

It was sophomore left-handed closer Santiago Garcia on the bump in a crucial spot. He had gotten the previous batter out on one pitch, but staring him down was Beavers’ junior right fielder Easton Talt, one of the stars of the Oregon State crew.

Garcia paid no mind to the dominant hitter at the plate. After three pitches, Garcia said good morning, good afternoon and goodnight as he sat down the right fielder to secure the sweep. The sold-out PK Park popped with excitement as their Ducks pulled off the major 3-2 upset win over their rival.

“Two different umpires this weekend said this is the most incredible environment that they’ve been in on the entire west coast,” Oregon head coach Mark Wasikowski said. “If that’s what the umpires…

No. 13 Oregon baseball plays in dominant fashion to take Game 2 over No. 3 Oregon State, 13-1

A beautiful sunny Saturday afternoon in Eugene, Ore. meant it was time for Game 2 of the rivalry series between the No. 13 Oregon Ducks (29-12, 14-7 Big Ten) and the No. 3 Oregon State Beavers (32-8), which saw Oregon win in style 13-1.

Oregon’s defense started off the game strong in the top of the first, securing a double play off a grounder directed towards sophomore shortstop Maddox Molony.

The Ducks' offense also got off on the right foot, in the bottom of the first, with Dominic Hellman hitting a deep ball over the center field wall, bringing home two runs, and making it a 2-0 Oregon game early. Beavers starting pitcher Dax Whitney (3.0 IP, 4 H, 4 ER, 4 BB, 4 K and 68 pitches) recorded his first strikeout of the game to end the inning.

Oregon starting pitcher Collin Clarke (6.0 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 4 K and 93 pitches) kept the defense hot in the top of the second and left one runner stranded on second after recording his first strikeout of the game to end the…

DeCesare: Young Ducks Soar -- Defense Outshines the Offense at the Spring Game

The Oregon Ducks are star-studded with offensive firepower in every department, but during their 2025 Spring Game, the Ducks’ offensive talent was stifled by strong defensive performances.

Through the first three quarters, there were few explosive plays for both the Fighting Ducks and the Combat Ducks. Quarterbacks on either side were struggling to find room to stretch the field.

“Some good, some bad,” head coach Dan Lanning said regarding the quarterback play. “Thought we hit a funk a little bit in the middle, started off a little bit hot. Operated well in some situations and then in some we certainly could have been better in.”

Projected starting quarterback Dante Moore struggled to find plays downfield until the fourth quarter, when he connected with Jurrion Dickey on the sideline for 35 yards. Additionally, quarterbacks like Luke Moga, Akili Smith Jr., and Austin Novosad showcased unique capabilities that make them stand out from one another. Smith…
