A hopeful, fresh Oregon softball team begins its season on the road
As the climate begins to cool and winter swings into full force, the chill in the air marks the nearing of the NCAA softball season. And for the Oregon Ducks, they come into the season ranked as the No. 23 team nationally, one spot higher than they ended the 2024 season after sporting a 30-21 overall record and a 13-10 record in the since-departed Pac-12.

This year, the Ducks are one of the four West Coast newcomers to the Big Ten. They are primed for more miles and similar on-field challenges with the Big Ten, clocking into the 2025 season with four other top-25 programs (the Pac-12 finished 2024 with four others as well).
UCLA also made the move to the Big Ten, which will preserve a thorn on the Ducks’ side, as the 2024 Pac-12 champions will provide top-5-worthy competition and thus an obstacle in the way of the top step of the conference. The Bruins swept the Ducks last year, going 2-0 in a late-March series in which the third game was…

The Oregon Ducks men’s basketball team came out swinging this season, posting a 9-0 record to start the year. While the defense did its job in those games, the offense was what shined for Oregon, putting up 80 or more points in five of the nine games and 70 or more in three games. The undefeated streak was eventually broken and more losses were sprinkled in, but the Ducks kept winning for the most part and that offense kept clicking with four more 80-plus point games including an 89-point burst against Weber State.
The Ducks have completely lost this. After putting up 82 in a gritty win against Penn State, they have sputtered with four losses in five games. In those four losses, the Ducks totaled 58 against Purdue, 69 against a bottom tier of the Big Ten Minnesota team, 52 against UCLA and now 71 points against lowly Nebraska.
“We haven’t made the progress that we need to make, offensively and defensively. We are kind of in a rut now…

Oregon Ducks men’s basketball (16-5, 5-5 Big Ten) hoped to get a much-needed bounce-back win following the losses at Minnesota (11-11, 3-8 Big Ten) and UCLA (16-6, 7-4 Big Ten). The previous two outings for the Ducks led to their first back-to-back losses of the season. They couldn’t snap the losing streak on Sunday, as they fell 77-71 at home.
“They knew how bad we needed this game,” head coach Dana Altman said to the press after the loss. “A lot of good looks. [They] just didn’t finish anything around the basket.”
This time, the challengers for Oregon were the Nebraska Cornhuskers (13-8, 3-7 Big Ten), coming off their overtime win over Illinois. That close win halted the six-game-losing streak for the Cornhuskers.
Slow offensive starts are becoming the identity of this year’s Oregon team. The inability to get the easy shots down has been killing the Ducks all season. Tough misses to start the game led to hesitation to take…

Christiansen: The Ducks’ transfer seniors rally to secure the rivalry win
“I just seen the way they was guarding me from 3, that was mad disrespectful,” TJ Bamba, Tuesday’s leading scorer, said after another Oregon win. “So I said it’s over, I’m snapping out of this.”
Bamba and the Ducks’ transfer seniors got all they could eat against the Huskies in the 82-71 victory at Matthew Knight Arena.
Oregon (16-3, 5-3 Big Ten) knows it is going to get Washington’s best shot no matter the ranking and no matter the sport. After falling to Purdue in their last home game, the Ducks looked to carry over their defensive performance while finding better shots. The 82-71 victory over the Huskies (10-9, 1-7 Big Ten) proved to be another competitive classic.
Nate Bittle and the Oregon big men had their work cut out for them, facing the $2 million man, Great Osobor, who transferred to Washington from Utah State, receiving the largest reported NIL deal seen yet in college basketball.
Washington’s…
