Oregon Softball takes down the Washington Huskies to win the series

By: Olivia Arciniega

The Oregon Softball team came to play today, winning the game 6-4 and the series 2-1 against #9 Washington. A great defensive effort and an even better offensive show led the Ducks to victory, with notable efforts from Alyssa Daniell, Elise Sokolsky, and Morgan Scott.

Jane Sanders stadium was full of energy and sun, a nice break from the previous rain delays that occurred earlier in the series. However, it was still a slow start for the Ducks. The Huskies came out swinging against Stevie Hansen, who struggled on the mound throughout the first inning. Washington’s right fielder Alana Johnson knocked one out of the park early, racking up an RBI and 2 runs against Oregon. An error from KK Humphrey during the top of the second allowed Jillian Celis to collect an unearned run. Shortly after, Hansen was taken out after facing eight batters, and allowing 5 to advance to the bases with 3 of them being walks. Sokolsky took control on the mound,…

OREGON WLAX PREVIEW: The Ducks look to ride the hot hand into their marquee matchup against the No. 21 ranked USC Trojans this Saturday

By Tayten Torgrimson

After gathering its first win in Pac-12 play this season, Oregon (7-3, 1-2 Pac-12) will take on its toughest test yet, reigning conference champion and future Big 10 opponent, USC (9-3, 3-0 Pac-12) Saturday. USC is ranked No. 21 in the country and has the record to prove it. Two of three losses this year have come at the hands of the top 15 teams, No. 6 Michigan and No. 5 John Hopkins. Yet, USC also has a win against (at the time) No. 15 Army on the road. Oregon comes into this game after dominating UC Davis 17-7 and with an attitude of revenge because it suffered a 14-4 loss last season against USC in Los Angeles. Luckily for the Ducks, USC comes to Papé.

What Oregon MUST do to win this game:

Like the last game against UC Davis, Oregon will have to play excellent defense. Oregon shut down one of the top scorers in the Pac-12, Grace Gebhardt. Gebhardt scored four goals in the loss but had hardly any production…

Huskies third-inning explosion blows the Ducks out of the water

By: Isaac Dubey

In the 100th all-time meeting in the storied rivalry between #9 Washington and #24 Oregon, the Huskies broke away in the top of the third inning with six runs. The third inning started with Sydney Stewart launching a home run to left field. With Morgan Scott in the circle and two outs down, the scoring onslaught began as Avery Hobson walked followed by three consecutive Huskies connecting on base hits with two runners home to give the Huskies a three-run lead. Washington catcher Olivia Johnson decided to join the party and blasted a ball to left field over the wall for a three-run home run and extended Washington's lead to 6-0.

Coach Lombardi said she thought Scott had a favorable matchup after the two-out walk and "wanted to stick with her." Lombardi noted Scott only allowed one base hit, giving the coach a positive feeling with one out to go in the inning. Scott ended her night allowing six hits and six runs in 80 pitches.

SB Preview: Ducks Host Top-10 Huskies for the First Time in 2024

By Charles Martindale Following a disappointing trip to Southern California last weekend, the 20-12 Oregon Ducks softball team has their work cut out for them this weekend. Sitting at number 22 in the NCAA’s top 25, the Ducks have put together a solid season while trying to navigate a loaded Pac-12 conference. Starting Friday, they’ll face the Pac’s 2nd place team, the No. 9 Washington Huskies. Washington made the trip to Eugene once already in 2024, when they went undefeated in the Jane Sanders Classic in February, essentially using the games as a tune up. The Huskies hold the top spot in the Pac-12 in AVG. and OPS., while ranking second in home runs and third in steals. Only No. 8 Stanford has a lower team ERA or higher strikeout total than the Washington staff. They’re rolling into town with a well rounded squad with experience competing against the top teams in the nation. On the other side of the diamond, Oregon has a similarly experienced roster who has earned… Read More

Oregon MTEN: The Ducks Fly Back

By Alan Babadzhanov

EUGENE, Ore - After a long month of road matches, the No. 67 Oregon Ducks (12-9, 1-2 Pac-12) are back in Eugene with a pair of home matches on Friday against the #25 UCLA Bruins (8-6, 1-2 Pac-12) and the No. 49 USC Trojans (5-11, 0-2 Pac-12) on Sunday. The Ducks are coming off a 4-1 win against Utah and look to ride the wave this week. They have a tough task ahead of them as UCLA has two ranked players in No. 22 Govind Nanda and No. 120 Spencer Johnson.

The Ducks are 1-4 in their past five matches due to some rough circumstances. No. 2 Singles player David Cierny hasn't played the past two matches due to injury. This has led to everyone moving up in the lineup and No. 3 Vlad Breazu is on a four match losing streak. No. 1 Quinn Vandecasteele is going to need to pull through as his past couple matches have led to unfinished three set matches. With UCLA having two ranked Singles players, the top of the lineup is going to need to…
