Oregon Ducks Soccer's Late Game Heroics Lead to Win vs. Arizona

By: Xaiver Aguiar

The Wildcat's greatest foe is the grey wolf, but after the events on Sunday afternoon, the duck will hold that designation. Oregon stunned Arizona with a 1-0 win as they surpassed their 2019 conference win total. The game was far from smooth, but the result is all that matters.

Arizona played a much different style of soccer than was on display Friday night by their in-state rivals, Arizona State. Whereas the Sun Devils let the game come to them, the Wildcats were far more aggressive. They enacted a full press for a majority of the game, making possession difficult for the Ducks. Arizona too struggled to maintain possession of the ball, making for a methodical game. There were no great scoring opportunities or highlight moments by either side for the first half.

The start of the second half was night-and-day from that of the first. The pace of the game dramatically changed, and the field began to open up. Both sides…

SB | Bats heat up late for Oregon to propel them past Sacramento State

Story by: Ryan Milano

The Ducks were given an unexpected run for their money on Sunday morning against the Sacramento State Hornets but ended up closing out the game in run-rule walk-off fashion. Headed into the bottom of the 5th, the game was knotted at 0 behind two dominant pitching performances. Raegan Breedlove was filthy in the circle for Oregon, working through 5 shutout innings, allowing only 3 total baserunners. On the other side, Sac St. Freshman Kelsey Alcantara kept pace with the Ducks taking a shutout of her own into the bottom of the 5th frame.

In the 5th, it looked like Alcantara might get out of another inning, but Haley Cruse had different ideas. With 2 outs and a runner in scoring position, Cruse notched a single into right and opened the flood gates for Oregon. The Ducks capitalized on a 2-out rally off an Allee Bunker 2 RBI single to put up 3 runs in the frame.

The Ducks rode off that same momentum in the 6th. Mya…

Oregon Soccer Held to 1-1 Draw with Arizona State after Double-OT Thriller

By: Xaiver Aguiar

The Ducks danced with the Devils on a chilly Friday night from Eugene, Oregon. After 110 minutes of action, the game ended in a 1-1 draw, with both teams wishing they had gotten a better result. The game took a while to get going, but when it did, it didn't disappoint.

Oregon dominated the first-half possession as Arizona State sat back and forced the Ducks to the side of the field. The Sun Devils gameplan was clear: wait for Oregon to make a mistake and create a strong counterattack. The issue for ASU was they couldn't generate any semblance of build-up play on the counter. It looked like that wouldn't matter, though, as off a set piece Duck goalie Leah Freeman came off her line to snag the ball but collided with an ASU attacker. While on the ground, Freeman put her hands up and made a miraculous save, which will feature on highlight reels for the rest of her Oregon career.

Right before the half, Oregon started…
