Explosive 5th Inning Propels Oregon Baseball to Series Sweep

By: Adam Susman

#11 Oregon Baseball (30-11) defeated Washington (17-24) 9-3, completing the series sweep of the Huskies. Oregon, now 14-7 in conference, grabbed their second PAC-12 sweep of the season after doing so against Oregon State a month. With few runs to start games this weekend, Oregon and Washington changed that: Noah Hsue was brought home via an error in the first, Gabe Matthews responded for Oregon with a solo homer, then in the top of the second with zero outs designated hitter Michael Brown crushed a ball over the wall in left-center giving Washington a 2-1 lead.

Similar to Saturday’s game when Washington had an early lead, Oregon soon dominated the middle innings. Kenyon Yovan went 2-5 this afternoon including a solo shot in the fourth to tie up the affair. The fifth inning is where it exploded for Oregon putting up five runs. Yovan again got the scoring going with a single to left field driving in Gavin Grant. Moments later Oregon had…

Ducks and Wildcats Split Softball Doubleheader Behind Elite Pitching and Stranded Runners

by Jackson Elliott

Oregon Softball is now 33-14 overall and 11-9 in the PAC-12, while Arizona is now 34-10 overall, 11-7 in the conference after Saturday's doubleheader against the Wildcats. The Ducks will carry a 2-1 series lead into the finale Sunday afternoon, knowing that they at least have a series split against a very strong Arizona team.

Game 1 was a 1-0 pitchers duel between Brooke Yanez and Alyssa Denham, with only 10 hits given up between the two of them. Yanez struck out 12 batters, her best performance since the UCLA series. She got herself out of multiple tough situations with Arizona runners in scoring positions through strikeouts and groundouts, including once in the 2nd after giving up a leadoff triple. 5th inning back to back doubles made the difference for the Ducks, one being from Deijah Pangilinan, her first extra-base hit of the season. The other was from Haley Cruse, who finished the game 3-3, just a home run short of the…

Robert Ahlstrom Dominates as Oregon Baseball Beats Washington

By Knight Jarecki

Oregon Baseball (28-11, 12-7) bounced back Friday night after dropping their previous 2 games to beat Washington 8-0. With the win, Oregon won their 8th series opener of the season.

The story of the game was the pitching performance by Robert Ahlstrom. Ahlstrom finished the game with 11 strikeouts in 7 scoreless innings while just allowing 4 hits. The 11 strikeouts set a new career high in K's for the Junior out of Eugene.

Ahlstrom was able to work his way through jams in the 2nd and 3rd innings. Both innings Washington was able to put men on the corners with no outs before Alhstrom retired the next 3 batters to escape both innings with no runs. After that point in the 3rd inning, Washington did not have a runner reach second base in the game.

Oregon scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning off of a Tanner Smith RBI double, a Kenyon Yovan RBI ground out, and a Gabe Matthews RBI single. In the 5th…
