Oregon Hosts Gonzaga in PNW Baseball Showdown

By Charles Martindale Under merciful clear skies, Oregon baseball looks to end the 2023 season strong. Oregon's 39th and 40th games of the year come at home in a mid-week set vs. the 14-22 Gonzaga Bulldogs. The Ducks are third in the Pac-12 and enter this week, which includes a weekend matchup vs. No. 12 Arizona State, off a series win at Berkeley. The success this year on offense for the Ducks has been no secret recipe. Sabin Ceballos, Drew Cowley, and Tanner Smith are the motor and gas for this '23 squad. Of qualified hitters, the trio are 1-2-3 in some order in OPS, RBI, and slugging, and account for 3/5 of the top five for Oregon in average, hits, and OBP. The surging Ceballos is a home run shy of leading the Ducks in all three triple crown categories, leading the current iteration of a strong Ducks offense. With the impressive freshman season of Rikuu Nishida, who's leading the team in runs and steals, along with being right up there with the aforementioned… Read More

SB Preview: Oregon Hosts Arizona in Hopes to Better Their Playoff Position

By Maddie Lang

EUGENE, OR – After their sweep of Arizona State last weekend, Oregon Softball (28-11, 8-7) returns home with the mission of another successful weekend. The Ducks were meant to face up against Portland State for a midweek doubleheader, however, after the cancellation of both games, the Ducks now prepare to face off against the University of Arizona Wildcats. The first of the three game series starts Friday night. Oregon is currently sitting at number 19 in the NCAA RPI ranking and number five in Pac-12 ranking. If they are able to maintain this position, they will have a good chance at hosting in the Regional round of playoffs as well as making an impression in the Pac-12 Tournament in May.

Oregon

The offensive performances from infielders Tehya Bird and Alyssa Daniell were key in Oregon’s success last weekend. They both had two RBIs on three at bats during the Ducks’ Sunday night face off. Oregon’s hitting is led…

SB Preview: Bushnell Returns Home for Doubleheader with Corban

by Ryan Oppenheimer

The 11-28 Beacons still have playoff hopes, and to keep those hopes alive, they will need to maintain momentum for an upcoming six-game homestand. They will take on Corban at Rich Schwab field twice today, at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.

Right fielder Ericka Allen is coming off a three-hit performance that propelled Bushnell to an 8-7 road victory over Warner Pacific on Saturday. Her partner in left, Madison Steelman, leads the team in hits, average and OPS, and also contributed two hits and an RBI Saturday. The two should be expected to spearhead the offense again.

Sam Silver is the Beacons' two-way workhorse, pitching for a team-leading 4.24 ERA and 52 strikeouts over 19 appearances while also batting .307. As the regular day-one starter, she is expected to take the mound for the first game of the doubleheader. As for the second game, head coach Jim Patrick could decide to go with either Liz Hillier or Leslie Reynaga. Reynaga has been the…

SB Preview: Ducks Look to Continue Winning Ways With Midweek Doubleheader

By John Evans

EUGENE, OR - This Tuesday at Jane Sanders Stadium, the #18 Oregon Softball Team will play host to the Portland State Vikings for a midweek doubleheader. The Ducks are returning home after a three-game sweep of Arizona State on the road, improving their record to 28-11 on the season, including an 8-7 record in Pac-12 play. The visiting Vikings come in with a 15-19 record this season, most recently winning two out of three games against Idaho State.

Oregon

The Ducks seem to have found their rhythm right at the perfect time this season, after being able to steal a game against two top-10 teams in Stanford and UCLA, they have now won each of their last four series, and eight of their last 10 games. Throughout that stretch, they have been led by the outstanding pitching trio of Stevie Hansen, Morgan Scott, and Raegan Breedlove, whose ERAs for the season now sit at 2.22, 2.56, and 3.00 respectively, while throwing 92.4…

WLAX: Oregon Ducks fall to #20 USC on their Senior Day

Written By Olivia Arciniega

On this rainy Sunday afternoon, the Ducks were scheduled to take on the Trojans on their home field. It was also the day to celebrate the graduating seniors: Alyssa Wright, Katie Collins, Alli Bateman, Logan Gierke, Sam Brescia, Maggie Flynn, Bailey Smith, and Margot Hotham.

First Quarter:

Maybe it was the excitement from Senior Day, or because it was the last home game, but there was something in the air for the Ducks. They came out with a burst of energy that made the Trojans look slow. Haley Cummins was strong on the draw, winning the opening one, allowing the offense to work. Getting a pass into the 8 through the strong USC defense wasn’t easy, but patience was the name of the game for the Ducks. About 4 minutes into the game, Katie Collins drew a free position, where she passed it off to Cummins, who scored the first goal of the game. The Duck’s defense was just as impressive…
