BSB | Oregon Defeats Arizona in a Nail-biter to Even the Series

After coming off a 10-2 loss in game one on Thursday night, Oregon wins game two in dramatic fashion 2-1. Oregon struck first, scoring off a Jonny DeLuca RBI double in the bottom of the fourth. The rest of the game was relatively slow for both teams, despite Oregon's seven hits on the night, they weren't able to capitalize. Later in the same inning as the DeLuca double, only one out was recorded with the bases loaded and Ray Soderman and Jason Drees struck out back-to-back. The Wildcats didn't record their first hit of the night until the top of the seventh inning when Cesar Salazar hit a solo shot over the right field wall, his third home run of the series. That Salazar home run knotted the game up at one run a piece, but it didn't last long, because in the bottom of the seventh Kyle Kasser hit a RBI single to right center that drove in the eventual game winning run. Sparks flew in the ninth inning as the Wildcats had the bases loaded with no outs on the board. Kenyon Yovan decided… Continue with BSB | Oregon Defeats Arizona in a Nail-biter to Even the Series.

SB | Oregon Cruises in Game Two of Super Regionals, Forces Decisive Game Three

No. 1 Oregon softball controlled game two of the NCAA Super Regionals on Friday night, defeating no. 16 Kentucky 6-1 to tie the best-of-three series at 1-1. After each offense poured it on early and often the day before, neither team could generate anything through the first three frames. With the Ducks serving as the away team, it wasn't until the top of the fourth when the freshman Lauren Burke stepped in with the bases loaded and delivered a one-out single that scored two, with a throwing error bringing in another run. Mia Camuso then brought Burke around to make it 4-0 Ducks, and though Kentucky would muster one-run response in the bottom of the inning, Oregon starter Miranda Elish shut the powerful Wildcat offense down the rest of the way on her way to two-hit, seven strikeout complete game performance. Jenna Lilley doubled in two insurance runs in the sixth for a 6-1 Oregon lead, which the Ducks closed out with ease down the stretch. The win for Oregon means the two sides will… Continue with SB | Oregon Cruises in Game Two of Super Regionals, Forces Decisive Game Three.

SB | Ducks Drop Game One as Kentucky Unloads in Super Regional Opener

No. 16 Kentucky moved one game away from a berth in the 2018 Women's College World Series with a wild game one upset of no. 1 Oregon by a score of 9-6. In just its second loss at home, the Ducks witnessed the most runs of the season, the previous had been six, come across in a single game, the most errors, four, in the field to go with three long-balls ripped off the Wildcats' bats. Oregon ran into trouble out of the gate as starting pitcher Megan Kleist gave up three runs on one swing of the bat from Alex Martens in the top of the first. With a single from Katie Reed and an 11-pitch walk for Abbey Cheek that put two runners on, Martens eighth home-run of the season made it a 3-0 lead for Kentucky. After giving up her most earned runs in a single inning all season, Kleist would surrender another when Reed would single in another score in the top of the second for a 4-0 lead, a deficit the Ducks had only seen twice this year and had been unable to overcome. Oregon answered back in the… Continue with SB | Ducks Drop Game One as Kentucky Unloads in Super Regional Opener.

AUDIO: Oregon Baseball Looks to End Season on High Note Versus Arizona

Coming off a demoralizing sweep at the hands of ranked UCLA, Oregon baseball returns home looking to close their season with a win against Arizona. The season finale comes after false reports circulated earlier this week that Ducks' head coach George Horton would not return for next season, which was quickly corrected by the Oregon athletic department that has committed to Horton through 2019. The Ducks' three game series with Arizona will feature a new face in the starting rotation, with freshman Cullen Kafka earning the opening spot on Thursday due to the needed rest for regular starter Kolby Sommers. Kenyon Yovan and Matt Mercer will start on Friday and Saturday as usual. Listen below as Horton and his players spoke after practice Wednesday afternoon about their season finale.
