SB | Ducks Drop Game One as Kentucky Unloads in Super Regional Opener

No. 16 Kentucky moved one game away from a berth in the 2018 Women's College World Series with a wild game one upset of no. 1 Oregon by a score of 9-6. In just its second loss at home, the Ducks witnessed the most runs of the season, the previous had been six, come across in a single game, the most errors, four, in the field to go with three long-balls ripped off the Wildcats' bats. Oregon ran into trouble out of the gate as starting pitcher Megan Kleist gave up three runs on one swing of the bat from Alex Martens in the top of the first. With a single from Katie Reed and an 11-pitch walk for Abbey Cheek that put two runners on, Martens eighth home-run of the season made it a 3-0 lead for Kentucky. After giving up her most earned runs in a single inning all season, Kleist would surrender another when Reed would single in another score in the top of the second for a 4-0 lead, a deficit the Ducks had only seen twice this year and had been unable to overcome. Coming off a demoralizing sweep at the hands of ranked UCLA, Oregon baseball returns home looking to close their season with a win against Arizona. The season finale comes after false reports circulated earlier this week that Ducks' head coach George Horton would not return for next season, which was quickly corrected by the Oregon athletic department that has committed to Horton through 2019. The Ducks' three game series with Arizona will feature a new face in the starting rotation, with freshman Cullen Kafka earning the opening spot on Thursday due to the needed rest for regular starter Kolby Sommers. AUDIO: Oregon Readies for NCAA West Preliminary Rounds After Successful PAC-12 Championship

After a successful PAC-12 championship meet where the Oregon Men track and field team finished first and the Oregon women finished second, respectfully. The Ducks are now looking forward to the NCAA West Preliminary rounds this weekend in Sacramento, California. After winning the PAC-12 for the 12th straight season, the men of Oregon, have earned a total of 29 entries into the NCAA West Preliminary rounds which is tied for most in the nation. The women of Oregon who fell short at the PAC-12 championships with a second place finish, respectively, will enter 32 women into the NCAA West Preliminary rounds which leads the nation.
