Fresh off of their first sweep since 2016, Oregon baseball is looking to carry their momentum into a road series with #18 UCLA this weekend. The Ducks still appear to be on the outside looking in at the NCAA Tournament, but with six games left in the regular season, could still climb as high as third place in the PAC-12 standings. Oregon Baseball completed their first three game sweep since April of 2017 and their first Pac 12 sweep since April of 2016 Sunday afternoon with a 4-3 walk-off victory. The Ducks trailed 2-0 after three innings, but then tied it up in the fourth and fifth innings with a Gabe Matthews hit by pitch to score Kyle Kasser and then Kasser scored again in the fifth when he sprinted home after an error throw to first base. The Ducks then went down 3-2 in the sixth, but responded again in the seventh as Kyle Kasser roped a tripe to the wall, only to score on the next at-bat via a Spencer Steer sac fly. With the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning, a Trenton Stolz wild pitch scored Kasser to end the game. With the win, the Ducks jump above .500 with a 25-24 overall record and an 11-13 conference record. Oregon pitcher Matt Mercer set a career high in strikeouts with 10 as the Ducks win 13-1 in Game 2 versus Utah Saturday afternoon. The Ducks got on the board early from a sac fly single from Kenyon Yovan to bring Jakob Goldfarb in to score. Utah eventually responded in the fourth by tying the game 1-1 off a sac fly from Utah’s Davis Delorefice. To start the fifth, Mercer gave up a single to Shea Kramer before fanning 3 straight Utah batters. Those strikeouts added up to 10 on the day for Mercer which was a new career high. Mercer got run support from the Ducks in the seventh with Yovan’s RBI single, DeLuca’s RBI single and Matthew’s 2 RBI triple. Soderman finished off the seventh with an RBI single of his own to make the score 7-1 Oregon. But the scoring continued in the eighth when Matthews hits again for an RBI Double.
