Following a disappointing 2017 campaign that saw the Oregon soccer team fall short of its goal of the program's first trip to the NCAA Tournament, Kat Mertz and the Ducks are back in 2018 looking for another chance at a breakthrough. With a number of returning players combining with a new class of freshman, Oregon remains an underdog in the always competitive PAC-12, where the Ducks were picked to finish 10th this year. The event meant to introduce the 2018 team to the media and public opened with head coach Mario Cristobal at the podium, followed by linebacker and defensive leader Troy Dye and then quarterback Justin Herbert. AUDIO: Oregon Softball Introduces Head Coach Melyssa Lombardi

Oregon softball introduced its new head coach Melyssa Lombardi on Monday afternoon at Jane Sanders Stadium. Joined by athletic director Rob Mullens, Lombardi used her introductory press conference to unveil her vision and focus for the softball program moving forward after the surprising departure of Mike White last month. Lombardi, who joins the Ducks after 21 years as an assistant coach (most recently as the associate head coach) at Oklahoma, brings a championship pedigree with her. During her time with the Sooners, Lombardi helped lead the program to four national championships, including back-to-back titles in 2016 and 2017.
