STORY: Oregon Soccer Can't Keep Pace with Stanford after Promising Start

Today, the Oregon’s Women’s Soccer team went up against the number one team in the country, the Stanford Cardinals. The Ducks came into the season with a record of 4-3-5 and left Pape Field with one more game in the loss column. The women in bright yellow kits held tough for the first 40 minutes, but the Cardinals broke the shutout with a penalty from the 2017 and 2018 ESPN player of the year Catarina Macario. The Ducks had a miscommunication that led to a handball in the box and Macario did the rest from the penalty spot. After Macario banged home the penalty, the flood gates opened for the Cardinals. Two minutes later Sophia Smith cranked a shot into the back of the net. Stanford led 2-0 at the half and they never looked back. Catarina Macario and the Cardinals took over in the second half, scoring in the 52nd minute and added an assist to Madison Haley at the 64 minute mark. Stanford never took their foot off the accelerator, adding another goal in the 74th minute on the foot of…

Story: Complete Effort Vaults Oregon Over Colorado

On a chilly Friday night at Autzen Stadium, the Oregon Ducks (5-1, 3-0) used a complete effort to earn their first 3-0 start to conference play since 2013. Seemingly all position groups contributed to Oregon's 45-3 beatdown of Colorado, as the offense erupted for 527 yards, while the defense held its opponent to single-digits for the fifth consecutive week.

Justin Herbert tossed two touchdowns and racked up 261 yards through the air while converting on 56% of his throws. The majority of the damage, however, was done on the ground, where Oregon exploded for 288 yards on 36 carries, good for an average of seven yards per rush. CJ Verdell had a breakout performance, leading the Ducks with 14 carries for 171 yards. Cyrus Habibi-Likio found the endzone three different times while rushing for 50 total yards.

Oregon's defense was also tenacious, forcing Colorado quarterback Steven Montez into four costly interceptions. The redshirt senior threw for 131 yards and was…
