Oregon Women's Basketball defeated UC Riverside 84-41 on Monday morning. It wasn't a hot offensive start for the Ducks, shooting a stale 6-21 from FG in the first quarter. There was strong defense out of the gates, however, as UC Riverside shot just 5-17 and committed 7 turnovers in the first quarter. Oregon's strong defense continued in the second quarter, holding the Highlanders to several long scoring droughts. Oregon went into the halftime break leading 38-22. In the second half, the Ducks started to break the game open behind a three-point barrage from freshman Jaz Shelley. Shelley made her first career start in place of Satou Sabally (rest), and made the most of it with a career-high 32 points on 10-14 3pt shooting. Her 10 threes is an Oregon single-game record. Alongside Shelley, Oregon's other top performer on Monday was Sabrina Ionescu (16 points, 18 rebounds, 12 assists). Ionescu's performance marks her 20th career triple-double. As a team, Oregon held UC Riverside to 25% (15-61) FG shooting. With the win, Oregon moves to 9-1 on the season, and 5-0 at home. Oregon's next matchup will be on Saturday, December 21st at noon as it plays host to Kansas State.
