STORY: Graeme Abel Era Starts with an 87th Minute Bang

By: Xaiver Aguiar

The Oregon Ducks played their first game under new head coach Graeme Abel, and it's one the team will never forget. The Ducks outlasted the Gonzaga Bulldogs with the final score of 1-0. The game was fast and physical, but the Ducks used their in-game improvements to get the result.

The extended absence away from the pitch meant the Ducks understandably started sluggishly. Gonzaga came out flying, but Oregon did an impressive job of stopping the early onslaught. Redshirt Junior Hannah Taylor got the start at center back and was impressive early before a lower-body injury ended her day early. The Ducks didn't let this unfortunate situation stop them as the first half got further underway, the team started gaining momentum. The usual suspects of Jordan Wormdahl and Zoe Hasaneur were able to have some impressive runs, but the Gonzaga backline limited their opportunities. The first half also marked the Oregon debut of Lexi Romero, a transfer from…

Oregon Men's Basketball falls to Washington State at Home

By: Jonah Rosenberg

On Thursday night, the Oregon Ducks were defeated by the Washington State Cougars by a score of 74-71. Despite a Matthew Knight Arena record 28 Oregon fouls (52 total), the Ducks took the Cougars down to the wire, but when Eugene Omoruyi fouled out late in the 2nd half, the Ducks fell victim to the Cougar’s hot shooting from behind the arc.

It was an ugly first half from the very tip. Oregon was clearly outsized in the front court and it became painfully apparent on the Cougar’s first possession. Two offensive rebounds leading to a wide open three pointer for DJ Rodman was enough for Dana Altman to go to the bench in the game’s second minute. Subbing in true freshman and large body Franck Kepnang provided a temporary fix to the interior woes, but the new center’s inexperience  guarding skilled big men in complex offenses forced Altman to pivot to a more experienced lineup featuring Chandler Lawson and even Lok Wur. STORY: Oregon Ducks Women's Volleyball Sweeps UCLA to Split Season Series 1-1

Written Story: Walter Hines

On Sunday afternoon, the 19th ranked UCLA Bruins looked to keep their undefeated record going against the Oregon Ducks in their second match series of the weekend here in Eugene. However, the Ducks were able to kill any hopes of an undefeated season for the Bruins, winning in a sweep and improving their record to 2-2. UCLA fell to 3-1.

UCLA seemed to be just offbeat, and the Ducks capitalized staying hot all match with an increase in effort plays from Friday. “Our movement was really good and we picked up a lot of balls that we didn’t pick up Friday, and I thought that showed UCLA that your going to have a hard time scoring tonight, and set the tone for us early,” Coach Matt Ulmer stated.

The Ducks were able to ride the hot hands of Gloria Mutiri and Taylor Borup who finished with 22 kills total and a hitting percentage of 42.5%. But cohesive team play led the Ducks to the win this afternoon…
