Story: Oregon Men's Basketball Uses Second Half Surge to Top Stanford 73-58 and Improve to 8-1
Story and Audio: Xaiver Aguiar
The Oregon Ducks defeat the Stanford Cardinal 73-58, stretching their home win streak to 28 games. Chris Duarte powered the Ducks offense, with 23 points, 14 of which came in the second half. Eugene Omuruyi (15 points, 5-11 FG) and LJ Figeroa (13 pts, 12 rebs) also were large contributors to the Ducks victory. Stanford’s lone bright spot was Bryce Wills who accumulated 12 points and 6 assists.
Oregon began the game 0-6 from 3 point land and struggled to generate effective offense. Stanford drove hard to the paint, using their clear size advantage to gain the lead for a large majority of the first half. Even after shooting in the low 30s for nearly the entire first half, the Ducks only found themselves down 2 at the break. That was in large part to the Cardinals turnover woes, as they amassed 12 in the first 20 minutes.
The game was tied at 36 with about 16 minutes left, and it appeared this would be…

The Iowa State Cyclones got the best of the Oregon Ducks in the Fiesta Bowl, defeating them 34-17. It was a sloppy game for Oregon from start to finish. The Ducks started the game with Tyler Shough under center but used backup Quarterback Anthony Brown as a short-yardage QB for the first two drives. Brown scored the Ducks first touchdown of the game as the backup and earned himself a full drive later in the half, taking his team 98 yards to score and tie the game up at 14. That was the last time Oregon would have an opportunity to tie the game.
The turnover party would ensue and wouldn't let up for the rest of the game. It started with a Travis Dye fumble in the 2nd quarter, which gave Iowa State the ball inside the Oregon red zone. That was followed by an Iowa State pooch kickoff that was not fielded cleanly by the Ducks and recovered by ISU. Despite the two first-half blunders, Oregon reached halftime…

The Intertwined Paths of Tyler Shough and Brock Purdy
Written by: Ryan Milano
Oregon and Iowa State find themselves facing off against each other in the 50th iteration of the Fiesta Bowl in Glendale, Arizona, a rare opportunity for a team like the Cyclones who find themselves in the first New Years Six Bowl in program history. In the addition of a Fiesta Bowl victory, starting Quarterbacks Tyler Shough and Brock Purdy have a little extra bragging rights on the line.
Shough and Purdy grew up as Arizona kids, envisioning an opportunity to play on a stage such as this one. The two star QBs played 8th-grade club baseball together.
“We were hitting 4-5 in the sweet spot,” according to Shough ” We had a lights out baseball team.”
Despite being the star players on a dominant team, the diamond was always more of a backup plan for the valley natives.
“I think we always knew that football was something we were going to end up playing,” Shough says.
