WBB Preview: #20 Oregon takes on Seattle in second game of 2022-23 campaign

By: Ian Sutliff

Eugene, OR-- #20 Oregon will take on the Seattle Redhawks this weekend in the second game of its season. The Lady Ducks are coming off a blowout win against Northwestern on Monday in which the team reached the triple digit mark in points. Seattle on the other hand is coming off a 36-point blowout loss in Corvallis on Thursday. While Saturday will be just the second game of the season for both teams, it may signal that the two squads are going in very different directions for the 2022-23 campaign.

Oregon:

The Ducks are a very different team than last year after a number of players have left via the transfer portal and the WNBA draft. Sedona Prince’s injury was also a big blow to this team’s regular and postseason hopes, but Oregon has a slew of newcomers that are ready to make immediate impact. Grace VanSlooten is one of those players as she showed in the season opener that she is ready to take on a big role in…

STORY: Oregon Men's Basketball Suffers One of the Worst Losses in the Altman Era

Written Story by Austin Ota

The No. 21 Oregon Men’s Basketball team continued their early-season home stretch in a non-conference matchup against a Big West Conference foe in the University of California, Irvine Anteaters. After a dominant season opener against unranked Florida A&M, the Ducks displayed many of the flaws that had relegated them to a second round NIT exit the year prior. After a halftime deficit that had ballooned all the way into the teens, Oregon was unable to string points together in the second half and fell, 69-56.

Oregon’s first half was plagued by poor shooting, inefficient passing, and turnovers. With a halftime shooting line of 29.2% from the field, 57.1% from the free throw line, and 0-7 from deep range, the Ducks were only able to put 22 points on the board. And that doesn't even scrape the surface of the eight turnovers to just four assists. The lone bright spot of the first half was veteran…

MBB PREVIEW: Oregon Looks To Move To 2-0 As They Take On UC Irvine.

By Liam Baker

Eugene, OR —The #21 Oregon Ducks opened the season on Monday night with a dominant 80-45 win over the Florida A&M Rattlers, and they will look to build on that performance when they take on the UC Irvine Anteaters (1-0) on Friday night. The Ducks bullied the Rattlers in the paint, scoring 42 points and pulling down 44 rebounds. Senior N'Faly Dante led the Ducks in scoring, rebounds and steals, posting 16 points, 10 rebounds and four steals. Despite controlling the paint against Florida A&M, Oregon struggled from behind the three-point line. Senior Will Richardson and Colorado transfer Keeshawn Barthelemy both went 2-8 from behind the line, and the team shot 24% from three. Freshman Kel'el Ware, a 2022 McDonald's All-American, contributed eight points and three blocks off the bench in his first game for the Ducks.

The Anteaters dispatched Chapman University 96-50 in their opener on Monday. Juniors Devin Tillis and Dawson Baker both…

STORY: Harsh Reality Ends Chaotic MLB Season

by Charlie Martindale

21st century baseball has been in its awkward phase for a long time now. With the sport notoriously hungry for growth, everything from the rulebook to the rosters to rumors of expansion and relocation have caused the last few World Series’ to feel loose and unplanned. Late October and early November, the rare time of year when MLB might receive mention in the cloud of constant NFL and NBA stories, gives the greater sports world a few moments to ask why next year will hold so many new rules, why players who had just become the faces of franchises were traded, and why the Houston Astros, one of a handful of teams the wider world knows a thing or two about, are still so good.

Houston’s defeat of Philadelphia in six games last week brought an end to a month-long speedrun of dominance, with the Astros winning their second title in franchise history, and first that comes without a host of disagreement and outrage from the rest of…
