Ducks Lose Game 2 of the Series to UCLA after a Wild Finish in Extra Innings

The Ducks came into game two of the series against UCLA with renewed energy and vigor; however, that was quickly erased after UCLA starter Selina Ta'amilo and the UCLA defense held the Oregon offense at bay. Both teams were scoreless heading into extra innings, but it was the Oregon defense that failed in the bottom of the ninth, making way for UCLA to win 1-0. With runners on second and third base, the Ducks had to figure a way to stop the Bruins from scoring the winning run. Freshman Maggie Balint, having given up only two hits at this point in the game, threw a pitch in the dirt that got away from catcher Gwen Svekis, allowing UCLA's Zoe Shaw to cross home plate, giving UCLA the win. Oregon will look to bounce back on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. Game Story (by Jonathan Rifkind)… Continue with Ducks Lose Game 2 of the Series to UCLA after a Wild Finish in Extra Innings.

SB: UCLA Hands Oregon First Loss of Season Behind Stellar Pitching

The No. 2 Oregon Ducks needed just one more win to become the first team in NCAA Softball history to open the season winners of 36-straight games. However, the No. 9 UCLA Bruins had other ideas. Behind a complete-game shutout pitching performance from redshirt freshman Rachel Garcia (11-4), the Bruins blanked the Ducks and won 2-0. Zoe Shaw drove in the deciding run on a two-out single back in the second inning and Madeline Jelenicki added a solo home run in the fourth to account for all the scoring off Oregon's Megan Kleist (10-1). The loss drops Oregon to 35-1 overall and 8-1 in Pac-12 play while the Bruins are now 27-9 and 3-4 in conference. Oregon will look to even up the series on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. to set up a rubber match on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. Game Story (by Jonathan Rifkind)… Continue with SB: UCLA Hands Oregon First Loss of Season Behind Stellar Pitching.

BSB: Offense, Peterson shine as Oregon defeats UC Irvine 10-1.

The Oregon Ducks Baseball team took to the field Friday night and cruised to a 10-1 victory over the UC Irvine Anteaters as both the offense and ace David Peterson were firing on all cylinders. Ten runs would be more than enough support for Peterson as he went 6 innings, giving up 5 hits, 1 earned run and struck out 11 batters. As Peterson once again impressed on the mound, Jake Bennett proved to be the other star of the game as he came up a home run short of hitting for the cycle. Despite not accomplishing the cycle, Bennett finished the day going 3-5 with an RBI. Game 2 of the three game set will take place tomorrow at 2 pm as sophomore RHP Matt Mercer will look to continue his impressive start to the season thus far.
