Both teams were scoreless heading into extra innings, but it was the Oregon defense that failed in the bottom of the ninth, making way for UCLA to win 1-0. With runners on second and third base, the Ducks had to figure a way to stop the Bruins from scoring the winning run. Freshman Maggie Balint, having given up only two hits at this point in the game, threw a pitch in the dirt that got away from catcher Gwen Svekis, allowing UCLA's Zoe Shaw to cross home plate, giving UCLA the win.
