Soccer: Oregon Spring Opener at Pape Field Ends in Draw

Oregon and Gonzaga dueled their way to a scoreless draw at Pape Field on Friday night, with both teams seeing their fair share of chances but plenty of balls clanging off the posts. Oregon got off to a strong start, edging the Zags in shots and possession in the first half, but the Bulldogs dominated the second half, despite no goal to show for it. The #26 ranked Oregon Men's Tennis Team could not pull off the upset victory against the #12 ranked California Bears, losing the match 4-3. California won two doubles matches, giving them the doubles point to go up 1-0. Week 2 of Oregon Football's spring workouts is nearly complete after the Ducks practiced inside the Moshofsky Center on Friday because of rain. Oregon has one more scheduled practice this week (Saturday, in an open-to-the-public scrimmage hosted by Jesuit High School in Portland, Ore.). The annual Spring Game is slated for April 29 at 11:00 a.m. and it will be broadcast on KWVA Eugene 88.1 FM as part of the inaugural Saturday Sports Marathon on KWVA (also on April 29 is softball and soccer). SB: Oregon falls in game one of series to Washington

The Oregon Ducks, following a series loss at UCLA, were unable to find victory against #12 ranked Washington as they fell 4-2. The Ducks fell behind early with an error in the first by Nikki Udria that gave the Huskies a 1-0 lead. The Oregon offense would rally back with two runs of their own in the fourth inning to give them the lead before falling behind in the next half inning off an Aguilar two run homer to center. Balint did put together a solid outing, notching five innings, five hits, three runs, two of which were earned, and three strikeouts. Offensively, the Ducks managed just four hits but also got on base six times via walks.
