STORY: Oregon Softball Welcomes the Return of Fans in the Stands with Win Against Portland State

By Jonah Bruneau

For the first time in two years, Jane Sanders Stadium played host to a full capacity crowd of roughly 2,000 spectators for the Oregon Ducks' Softball home opener. The Ducks did not disappoint as they took control of the game early after two three-run innings in the first and second innings. When all was said and done, Oregon shutout the Portland State Vikings by the final score of 7-0 in seven innings. Under blue skies and temperatures in the sixties, the atmosphere inside "The Jane" was evidently back to normal.

Fifth year Senior Jordan Dail got the start in this one and did not let it go to waste as she got the win, putting up five scoreless innings along with striking out two and giving up just three hits. Junior Makenna Kliethermes then took over the circle in the sixth and pitched two shutout innings herself while giving up only one hit and sitting down two as well. As for the offense, Junior Vallery Wong opened up the…

PREVIEW: Oregon Baseball Begins Pac-12 Play Traveling to #5 Stanford

Written by Austin Ota

The Oregon Baseball team has had an up-and-down beginning to their 2022 season. Coming into the year, it was fair to assume that the Ducks would start hot and stay hot, as they finished the 2021 season just short of 40 wins and lost their hosted regional in heartbreaking fashion to a tough LSU team. However, they lost the first three games of the season to San Diego and then broke the early losing streak by winning the fourth game of the series thanks in large part to a grand slam off the bat of catcher Josiah Cromwick. Since then, Oregon has seemed to find an identity, as they swept St. John’s before going a combined 3-2 against UCSB and Portland. With that said, the upcoming series might prove to be their toughest of the regular season - opening conference play in Palo Alto against #5 Stanford. In this article, I’ll be breaking down the game by game pitching matchups, projected lineups, and my predictions for the outcomes of these…

Oregon MBB NCAA Tournament Hopes End in Vegas

By Knight Jarecki

Normally March means that a Dana Altman-led Oregon team is rolling. March 2022 was not the case as Altman's 5-seeded Ducks were bested by the 4-seeded Colorado Buffaloes 80-69 Thursday afternoon inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. With the loss, it ends Oregon's hopes to make the NCAA Basketball Tournament.

Half 1

Oregon started the game shooting the ball extremely cold. The Ducks began the opening 6 minutes shooting just 27.3% from the field as Oregon chose to drive the ball inside and put up countless contested shots. Jacob Young was able to push the pace early scoring 4 of Oregon's 8 points to begin the game. Colorado went to the big-man Evan Battey early on with the senior forward connecting on his first two shots for 5 points as Colorado led 9-8 with just under 14min to play. After the first media timeout, the Ducks defense went to work. Oregon shut out Colorado for over 2 and a half min with…

BASEBALL STORY: Stellar Pitching, Timely Hitting Lead Ducks to Trouncing of Pilots

Written and Audio Stories by Austin Ota

The Oregon Baseball team dominated from the first pitch, scoring in bunches and pitching their way to a victory over the Portland Pilots, 18-2. Following a four-game weekend series, Oregon decided to trot out true freshman Jacob Hughes, and he delivered in a big way. For a team that has struggled with command issues throughout the season, Hughes mixed a high-80's fastball with a solid, diving curveball and a timely splitter to three shutout innings. More than this, he limited hard contact, allowing just three seeing-eye singles. He also worked efficiently, finishing his three innings with just 34 pitches thrown. Following Hughes, Dylan Sabia, Logan Mercado, Scott Ellis, and RJ Gordon combined for 6 innings of two run ball, allowing just five hits and one walk.

Offensively, there were strong showings up and down the lineup, but the man at the top set the table the entire night. After beginning the season…
