Oregon MBB Preview: Ducks Look to Upset Arizona Once More, This Time in Tuscon

Written by: Jonah Bruneau

Eugene, OR-- The NCAA has entered the infamous crunch time of the season as we embark on the month of February, where the big dance picture starts to become more clear.

As It Stands

In Oregon’s case, this version of crunch time is substantially crucial as at the moment, the Ducks find themselves not in the conversation to claim a tournament berth. Joe Lunardi, the long time popular College Basketball Analyst for ESPN, currently does not even have Oregon in his ‘first four out’ or ‘next four out’ in his well known “Bracketology”. Long story short, the Ducks have an uphill battle. Of course, Oregon being led by coach Dan Altman could potentially run the table in the PAC-12 tournament and earn a spot in the madness of March that way, but how much does a team really want to rely on that? If Oregon wants to be in a position to not have to pull off this difficult feat, it starts with Arizona on Thursday…

Bushnell WBB cruises past Evergreen State, 68-48

by Alex Davis

When the Bushnell Beacons faced off against Evergreen State on Dec. 30, they squeaked by with a 59-58 win against the team hailing from Olympia, Wash. Clearly, the new year has changed something in Eugene as the Beacons were able to overcome a second-half slump (Bushnell had a 23% field goal percentage during the 3rd quarter) to beat the Geoducks 68-48.

They were of course led by star Senior Forward Kalina Rojas, who posted a career-high 17 points, during the first half. She credited her and her teammate's conditioning and recovery to be able to win despite playing 5 games in 8 days. Rojas stated on her standout performance that "I've accepted the role of looking for open shots." Coach Chad Meadors reveled in talking about his star Senior player saying that "If you leave Kalina open from 15 feet, she's gonna knock it down."

After the game Coach Meadors credited the Beacon's ability to maintain their lead during the…

Bushnell MBB bruises visiting Evergreen State,111-61

By Alex Davis

EUGENE, OR - The Evergreen State Geoducks came to Eugene looking to snap a 14-game losing streak against the Bushnell Beacons. Despite a 14-point double-double from Junior Tyler Williford, the Geoducks were absolutely dominated by Bushnell with a final score of 111-61.

The Beacon's strategy seemed to be to contain Evergreen St. Jordan Joseph (the best free throw shooter in the country) and that worked successfully for them last he remained 0-6 from beyond the arc and missed two free throws in the second half.

The story of the game was truly Bushnell Junior Stevie Schlabach who secured his place as the 3rd all-time scorer in Beacons Mens Basketball history. He finished the contest with 21 points and 18 rebounds. During the first half, Schlabach was accompanied by Kaden Sand, who had to leave during the first half with a hit to the face. Sand was able to return during the second half and finished with 13 points.

Oregon looks to build off strong win against tournament hopeful, Utah

By: Ian Sutliff

Eugene, OR--Utah and Oregon are both coming off impressive wins on Thursday, giving some life to each of their tournament hopes. In the first matchup between the two squads earlier this January, Oregon was in complete control in Salt Lake City, winning 70-60. Now the second matchup heads to Eugene where the story stays the same for the both teams: keep winning if it wants any shot at the tournament.

Oregon:

It’s been an up and down year for the Ducks with their tournament chances rocky at best right now. After avenging an almost 30 point loss against Colorado on Thursday, Oregon has a chance to sweep the season series against Utah, while improving to 14-9 on the season. It might be tough though with possibly no N’Faly Dante once again who dropped 17 points and had 12 rebounds in the first game against the Utes. Utah’s defense ranks 20th best in the country in terms of points per game and that’s always…

Oregon MBB - Ducks Avenge Loss at Colorado With Tough 75-69 Home Win

MATTHEW KNIGHT ARENA

EUGENE, OREGON

Written Story by Griffin Bowes

Tonight’s game was a critical point in the Ducks season as they came in with realistic hopes of a conference championship, but a need for sustained momentum. They were able to put the pieces together to claim a 75-69 win over a tough Colorado team. Despite leading for the entire second half, this was not an easy win for Oregon. In the middle of the second, the Buffaloes went on a 9-0 run to trim the lead to 2, but the Ducks responded with a 6-0 run of their own. Colorado kept it competitive for the rest of the game, but Oregon made their free throws in the final minutes to escape with a hard-fought win.

Oregon shot very well in this game, going 26-53 (49%) from the field, and 7-19 from 3 (37%). The Ducks had three players score at least 11 points, those being senior forward Quincy Guerrier, junior guard Keeshawn Barthelemy, and sophomore center Nate Bittle. Guerrier was the leading…
