MBB PREVIEW: Ducks Kick Off Tough Home Stretch with Red-Hot Arizona State

By Graham Metzker

EUGENE, OR – The Oregon Ducks men’s basketball team kicks off a weekend at home with a test against the Arizona State Sun Devils on Thursday night at Matthew Knight Arena. Arizona State’s interstate rival, the No. 9 Arizona Wildcats, will get a chance at the Ducks in two days time in a nationally-televised game. But make no mistake – the Sun Devils are one of the most dangerous teams in the Pac-12. The Sun Devils have already racked up 13 wins on the season, including a ranked win over No. 20 Michigan. The Ducks won their last time out against Utah, but the game before was a 68-41 drubbing by Colorado. The Sun Devils swept the Ducks last season with an overtime win in Eugene and a blowout win in Tempe. Two of the Pac’s most experienced coaches in Dana Altman and ASU’s Bobby Hurley are clashing again, with Hurley’s squad just one game ahead of Altman’s in conference play.

Oregon Football (10-3) stormed back from a 10-point fourth quarter deficit to stun the North Carolina Tar Heels (9-4) in the Holiday Bowl on Wednesday evening.  With 9 minutes left, the Tar Heels kicked a field goal to take a double-digit lead.  The Duck offense, having struggled throughout the second half, came alive with back-to-back touchdown drives, taking the lead on a dramatic 4th and 2 conversion with a 6-yard touchdown pass to Chase Cota with 19 seconds left.  Tar Heel Quarterback Drake Maye attempted to match the Duck heroics, but his 41-yard Hail Mary attempt hit the turf to complete the Oregon comeback.

The first half was evenly matched, with both teams trading touchdowns and stops, resulting with the Ducks driving with the ball, tied 14-14, late in the half.  Quarterback Bo Nix’s pass, intended for Tight End Terrance Ferguson, bounced off the intended receiver’s hands, off the defender’s feet, miraculously…

Graves Earns 200th Career Win as Lady Ducks Defeat Previously Unbeaten Arkansas 85-78

By Aiden Hess

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The No. 16 ranked Oregon Women’s Basketball team started their San Diego Invitational Tournament journey off with a massive victory over the No. 17 ranked Arkansas Razorbacks Tuesday afternoon at Pechanga Arena by a score of 85-78. Oregon began the game still in search of their first win over a ranked opponent, the Razorbacks proved to be a perfect opportunity to do so. In a game that was tightly contested from tip-off to the final buzzer, the Ducks pulled ahead late and handed Arkansas its first loss of the season and notching the 200th win in the coaching career of Oregon Head Coach Kelly Graves.

The Ducks were able to rally behind freshman forward and leading scorer Grace VanSlooten. VanSlooten scored a career high 26 points on 10 of 19 shooting to lead her team to victory along with guard Endiya Rogers who added 20 points of her own. WBB Recap: Ducks Close Out Home Stand With Near-100 Point Performance vs. Charleston

by Ryan Oppenheimer

The Oregon Ducks women’s basketball team continued their trend of fast-paced, unselfish play in their 97-33 win over the College of Charleston Cougars on Sunday December 18th. The team came out firing on all cylinders, scoring on nearly every trip down the court en route to a 24-5 lead in the opening minutes. The second quarter saw them cool off, as they only scored 11 points, but they burst out of the halftime break playing their patented brand of basketball again, dishing 17 of their 28 assists and only committing two turnovers in the second half. It was a balanced team effort in every facet, with Endyia Rogers, Te-Hina Paopao, Ahlise Hurst, Grace VanSlooten and Chance Gray all scoring in double figures. On the defensive end, they held the Cougars to 20.8% shooting and zero free throw attempts, with Phillipina Kyei hauling in a team-high 13 boards and swatting away 2 shots.

The Ducks, who improve to 9-1 on the year, have to be…
