Second-Half Woes Follow Ducks to Pasadena in 31-14 Loss to UCLA

Even before Oregon quarterback Justin Herbert went down with a fractured collarbone in the Ducks' Week 5 win against Cal, Oregon has struggled to score the ball in the second half. The same was true on Saturday afternoon at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California. After the UCLA Bruins (4-3, 2-2 Pac-12) scored the first 14 points of the battle, the Ducks (4-4, 1-4 Pac-12) tied the score just before halftime with two Braxton Burmeister touchdown runs. The second half belonged to the Bruins, though, as UCLA shutout Oregon in quarters three and four and scored 17 unanswered to win 31-14. The Ducks' passing game was improved in Saturday, but Oregon was still held under 100 yards passing for the second-consecutive week. In addition to Burmeister's two scrambles for touchdowns, Royce Freeman passed LaMichael James to become Oregon's all-time leading rusher with back-to-back long runs in the fourth quarter. Freeman, who finished with 160 yards on 29 carries, is also now alone at second all-… Continue with Second-Half Woes Follow Ducks to Pasadena in 31-14 Loss to UCLA.

STORY: Oregon Offense Looking for Resurgence from Charles Nelson

Entering week eight as the team's leader in receptions despite missing three games this season, senior receiver Charles Nelson is finally healthy and looking to help the Ducks overcome their offensive struggles. Having just put up 17 points in their past two matchups and the passing attack all but disappearing, true freshman starting quarterback Braxton Burmeister is in need of all the help he can get. Nelson touched the ball just once in the team's loss to Stanford, but with UCLA on the horizon, the Ducks will look for his production and experience to pull them out of their drought. STORY: Oregon is onto its Fourth Inside Linebacker Aside Troy Dye

The Oregon Ducks have been ravaged by injuries in 2017, including at the quarterback, running back, and wide receiver positions. However, only one position group has now turned to the fourth man on the depth chart: inside linebacker. Sophomore Troy Dye hasn't missed a game -- and rarely a snap -- this season, but his inside linebacker partner in Jim Leavitt's 3-4 defense has been a mix of guys. Injuries have torn apart AJ Hotchkins, Kaulana Apelu, and Blake Rugraff, forcing the Ducks to turn to Jimmie Swain. Considering the circumstances, the linebackers haven't missed a beat.
