WBB PREVIEW: Oregon Hopes to Make Statement in Conference Play

By Zach Carver

Oregon wraps up a weekend in California as the Ducks look to steal an in-conference win from unranked Cal on Sunday. As of Jan. 18, the Golden Bears sit at seventh in the conference, while the Ducks are eighth. Leaving Berkeley with a win could help Oregon jump past Cal, depending on the outcomes of each team’s Friday night games. Both teams enter the weekend with a losing record in Pac-12 play. It is fair to say each team will look to bring their best in a game that holds a lot of significance in terms of the current Pac-12 standings.

Through 17 games, the Golden Bears are averaging 70 points per game on 40.7% efficiency from the field. This low percentage puts them 11th in the conference in field goal percentage. Luckily for Cal, Oregon isn't much better with its 41.4% shooting. Despite not being a great three-point shooting team, Cal takes about 42% of its shots from behind the line. Cal has yet to lose a game this season while shooting under…

WBB PREVIEW: Oregon Looks To Build Off Recent Wins In Stanford

By Zach Carver

EUGENE, Ore. — After recent wins in Eugene against the Arizona schools, the Ducks focus their attention to the bay, where they will be traveling this weekend to take on No. 8 Stanford (15-2, 4-1 PAC-12) and unranked Cal (12-5, 2-3 PAC-12). After two tough losses against ranked opponents USC and UCLA to start the new year, Oregon has found itself with two straight wins, both against conference opponents. A win at Stanford would be huge for the Ducks at this point in the season, sitting at 11-7 and 2-3 in conference play.

Ducks head coach Kelly Graves needs to bring his best with him to Stanford in order to bring the No. 8 team its first loss at home this season. This meeting might be extra tough for the Ducks considering they are going up against a Stanford team that is looking to bounce back after losing to Colorado last weekend. Don’t be surprised if Stanford looks to make a statement in their first game since the defeat against an Oregon team…

MBB PREVIEW | Ducks Take Undefeated PAC-12 Record Into Mountains

By Ryan Oppenheimer

EUGENE, Ore. — After a comeback win over California, the Oregon Ducks men's basketball team (13-3, 5-0 PAC-12) travel for a pair of road games — Thursday at 7:30 p.m. against Colorado (12-5, 3-3 PAC-12) and Sunday at 12 p.m. against Utah (12-5, 3-3 PAC-12).

With such a young roster and coming off of a disappointing 2022-23 campaign, the Ducks weren't thought to be true threats going into the season. PAC-12 media projected them to finish fourth in the conference. But sure enough, Dana Altman has his squad atop the PAC-12 standings in mid-January, ahead of favorites like fourth-place Arizona, eight-place UCLA and 11th-place USC.

Moreover, the youth hasn't been an issue because the freshmen have looked like veterans. Jackson Shelstad is doing things even Payton Pritchard wasn't doing in his first…

MBB STORY: Oregon overcomes 18 point deficit to beat Cal

Written Story by Griffin Bowes

After a shaky start to the season, Oregon (13-3) has caught fire at the right time. With tonight’s 80-73 win over California (6-11), they are now a perfect 5-0 in conference play. With Arizona St’s loss to Washington on Thursday, the Ducks are now in sole possession of first place in the Pac-12. Much of Oregon’s early struggles could be attributed to poor health, which is becoming less and less of a factor with each passing game. Star center N’Faly Dante made his return tonight, scoring 8 points during 17 minutes of playing time. Despite not starting, his playing time was distributed relatively evenly throughout the game, and one can expect his impact to slowly increase over the remainder of the season.

While some looked at Cal’s performance this season and predicted an easy win for the Ducks, it was never going to be a runaway victory. Positioned in between last week’s road trip to Washington and next week’s trip to the…

Bushnell WBB Recap | Beacons Fall at Home to Sweet-Shooting Mounties

By Ryan Oppenheimer

EUGENE, Ore. — The Bushnell Beacons women's basketball team fell behind by double digits near the end of the first quarter and never recovered, losing 87-75 to the Eastern Oregon Mountaineers Friday night.

The Beacons, already a small team, continue to be shorthanded. Seven players were active, and only four of them contributed in the scoring column. Libby Mathis put up her usual double-double with 22 points and 12 rebounds while Aspen Slifka added 21 points, Aly Mirabile tallied 17, and Ayden Krupke tacked on 15.

The Mounties were tough to stop all night, with Brie Holecek scoring a team-high 23 points on 10/12 shooting. Both teams came out of the gates firing, but Eastern was especially unconscious, draining 22/32 from the field and 9/15 from deep in the first half and taking a 53-41 lead into halftime.

Eastern's shooting percentages dropped gradually over the course of the game, but so did Bushnell's. The Mounties' lead…
