Walsh, Umlandt Power Ducks' Win over Sac State

by Ryan Oppenheimer

No. 17 Oregon baseball (23-9) finished their two game home series against the Sacramento State Hornets (15-20) with an 11-4 win Wednesday evening. It was a complete performance and a convincing win that made up for a disappointing loss the day prior.

Early Offense Sets the Tone

Oregon got out to a 4-0 lead after one inning — a lead they would never give up. It started with a Bennett Thompson RBI single, followed by a two-run homer from Jacob Walsh — now the program’s all-time home run king — and a Dominic Hellman solo shot. That inning was enough to knock Hornets starter Jaxon Byrd out of the game, but the barrage didn’t stop there. Walsh would hit another three-run bomb in the second inning to bring him to 5 RBI on the day and 12 home runs on the season.

The Ducks were kept off the board in innings 3 through 5, but Thompson would deliver in the sixth with a two-run homer. He took the day off from his usual catching…

PREVIEW: Bushnell Baseball Looks to Rebound After Series Sweep

by Justin Mills

SPRINGFIELD, Ore – With the baseball season more than half way through, all eyes are on the upcoming matchup between the Bushnell Beacons and Corban Warriors. With Bushnell (19-18, 6-6 CCC) looking to put a jolt into the season and Corban (9-28, 4-8 CCC) looking to revive an already underwhelming season, the matchup between Bushnell and Corban promises to be an exciting one this weekend. With each team bringing their unique strengths to the table, Beacon fans can expect an intense and competitive showdown between these two.

With both offenses coming off high scoring series with very different results, it will be interesting to see how both teams respond heading into the weekend. After Bushnell got swept this past series by the University of British Columbia, it will be a real test to see how the pitching staff can come back and fortify a game and give the offense a lead going into the later innings.

With all that, the Corban Warriors…

OREGON SB PREVIEW: Ducks head to the Copper State for a critical series

By Mario Ponce

EUGENE, Ore. - The No. 20 Oregon Ducks softball team (22-13, 9-5 Pac-12) will travel this week to Arizona for two matchups. Tomorrow they will face the Grand Canyon Antelopes (33-8) in a single game in Phoenix. Over the weekend, they will face the Arizona Wildcats (22-12-1, 7-8 Pac-12) for three Pac-12 games. This will be a tough test for the Ducks at a critical point in their season.

Oregon Ducks:

The Ducks come into this series shrouded in question marks. Last week they beat the No. 9 Washington Huskies in a series for the first time in many years, but their regular season play has been inconsistent. So far, Oregon’s conference record is 9-5 and the team has found most success when playing at home, getting ten wins at the Jane. This year the main struggle for the Ducks has been in runs allowed, as there is a significant difference between the games that they've won and the games that they've lost. This year Oregon has…

BSB Story | Oregon Allows 19 Hits. Losses Midweek Match Up to Sac State 15-8

Written Story by Aiden Hess

Following a series win in Westwood over the UCLA Bruins, Oregon baseball entered the day with some momentum as they prepared for the first of a two game midweek set with the Sacramento State Hornets. The Ducks, winners of their last seven out of eight contests, saw their momentum get zapped in the very first inning of the ballgame.

Michael Freund got the start on the mound for the Ducks as he was coming off his best outing of the season one week ago on the road against Portland. Freund was the winning pitcher as he tossed six innings while allowing three runs, two earned in a quality start and 7-4 victory for Oregon. However, today was quite the contrast as after Freund retired the first batter of the game he proceeded to surrender six straight hits. That would make the score 5-0 Hornets at the time until the ninth man in the order, right fielder Ryan Christiansen drove a 2-run homerun over the fence in right field to give…
