BSB | Oregon Falls to Fresno State 5-1

Halfway through their four-game stint against Fresno State (14-9), Oregon (16-12) came out on Friday night seeking redemption after their poor showing in the first game of the series. Robert Ahlstrom (3.79 ERA) took the mound for the Ducks boasting a team high four wins on the season. After only allowing two runs through 7 innings, Ahlstrom put the Ducks in a position to win. However, a bullpen breakdown gave the Bulldogs a 5-1 lead late in the game, which would eventually be the final score.

The last thing Oregon wanted was a continuation of their offensive struggles, but with only one run scored, that is exactly what it seemed to be. Before this series the Ducks had seven straight games with at least three runs scored. They have failed to reach that mark in two straight games. On Friday night that was largely due to Fresno State’s Ryan Jensen (3.57 ERA) who was torching batters with fastballs topping out at 98 mph. Though Jensen rarely used his other pitches, it was…

BSB | Oregon Struggles in Series Opener Against Fresno State

Oregon baseball (16-11) started off a four game series tonight against Fresno State (14-9) with a 14-2 loss in the rain. RHP Tyler Frazier (2.45 ERA) had a slow start in the first inning, allowing all of the first three hitters on base. However, with the bases loaded the freshman played damage control, letting only one runner score. Fresno State’s Jamison Hill (3.18 ERA) also had a shaky first inning, allowing Sam Novitske to score off Tanner Smith’s double. But after allowing a run and two hits in as many batters, Hill settled in.

Despite a sloppy first inning, the pitchers were locked in on a wet mound. Both sides went scoreless until the fifth inning when Oregon’s Max Foxcroft singled into centerfield bringing in the tie-breaking run in Cameron Campbell from second.

Then came the sixth inning, where a complete collapse in Oregon pitching led to a total of 14 batters faced, five walks, four hits, and two errors. Four pitchers shared the dreadful inning,…
