Eugene, ORE. – The 2022 Oregon Football team took to the field for the first time on April 23 for the annual Spring Game. The Ducks were split into either the Green Team or the Yellow team before the game.

One of the biggest storylines of this game was the QB battle of who will be the starter for the 2022 season. Ty Thompson, the 5-star recruit that many fans wished to see in the 2021 season, started for the Green Team, and transfer Bo Nix started for the Yellow Team. Jay Butterfield took the field for both teams as well. However, it was Nix who was the most impressive of these three. His opening drive started with a 70-yard bomb down the field and a bullet passes down the middle of the field for the touchdown, both caught by Seven McGee. Oregon's baseball season continues to take dramatic turns. Countless times the Ducks (26-11) have made late comebacks in games that previously seemed out of reach, and the trend continued in tonight's 8-7 extra-inning home win over the Washington State Cougars (14-22).

Righty sophomore RJ Gordon made his sixth start of the season for Oregon and left the game 2 outs into the top of the 4th after giving up 6 runs on 9 hits. Relievers Christian Ciuffetelli, Stone Churby, Andrew Mosiello, Tommy Brandenburg and Kolby Somers picked up for the struggling Gordon, holding the Cougars scoreless through the final 5 innings and giving the offense a chance to rally. Sure enough, a chance was all they needed.

Through the first 5 innings, Oregon failed to put up a run and were at the mercy of Wazzu starter Cole McMillan, who dealt 10 strikeouts in 6.2 innings pitched. But the resurgence started in the 6th inning when Anthony Hall hit a bases-…

“I love coaching these guys every day," Lanning said. "It's a fun group. They come to work, and certainly, they know there's a ton of things we can improve on. But it's a fun group to coach."

New Spring Game, Familiar Format

Rather than make players flip sides of the ball or include some other gimmicks, the Spring Game appears to just be a showcase of Oregon in a normal game. According to Lanning, the game will “be very similar to a game format.” The Ducks will be split into two teams, the yellow team and the green team, each complete with an offense, defense, and special teams.

Wins have been a rare commodity for this Oregon team in April, as they have logged just two wins in the ten games they’ve played this month. Washington has been a different story, posting a 5-1 record against notable teams like Arizona and Oregon State, the former of which won their series against the Ducks last weekend.

Washington, ranked 11th in the nation, will be a major test of Oregon’s mettle as a team down the stretch. The Ducks have struggled with previous ranked opponents, dropping series against Arizona (25), Arizona State (16) and UCLA (3) consecutively, winning just one game of the nine they played against those teams. Oregon came out of that stretch needing to make a statement against PSU, which they accomplished… somewhat. Oregon led 5-0 going into the top of the seventh…
