Unranked Oregon searching for 2-0 PAC-12 start as it takes on #21 UCLA in Westwood

By- Ian Sutliff

Eugene, OR-- On Sunday, the Oregon Ducks will travel to UCLA where both clubs will be looking to keep their conference records perfect through two games. While Oregon’s basketball program hasn’t been at its best over the last few years, it has beaten the UCLA Bruins in four straight games dating all the way back to January of 2020. With both squads coming in with win streaks and having faced tough non-conference competition, it will be telling on Sunday which team is better prepared moving forward.

Oregon:

It’s no secret that the Ducks aren’t a good three-point shooting club as they rank 331st out of the 358 teams in division 1 at a 28.6% clip. On Sunday though, Oregon may need to lean on its guards to get going from deep against a very talented UCLA team that has shot almost 40% from beyond the arc through the first eight games of this campaign. If Oregon can keep the Bruins mainly quiet from three-…

From 8th Grade Sensation to Oregon Duck: Jennah Isai’s Journey to Eugene

By Graham Metzker

EUGENE, OR. – Jennah Isai is only eighteen years old, but she was built for the bright lights of a basketball arena.

Even before she was a player for the storied University of Oregon women’s basketball team. Even before she was awarded the 2022 Gatorade Player of the Year award for Arizona high school basketball. Even before showing up on courts surrounded by the circuit of sports journalists and college and professional scouts, Isai was making a name for herself.

Instead, Isai’s journey to stardom started more than four years ago on May 7, 2018, because on that date, a YouTube video with the title “8th GRADE GIRL has ARIZONA OFFER – Jennah Isai dominates at EBC Arizona Camp” was posted.

The video is one minute and 53 seconds of utter Isai domination: spin moves past defenders, euro-step dribble moves to open up an easy layup and plenty of basketball’s swish-ing through the net. The best part about…

#19 Oregon looks to improve to 6-1 against hot Portland team

By: Ian Sutliff

Eugene, OR-- On Saturday, the Oregon Ducks will be aiming for their second consecutive win after a strong showing in the PK85 tournament. Portland is coming off its third win in a row on the other hand with strong defensive performances against Houston, Northeastern, and Evergreen State. With conference play starting next week, this will be a strong test for both squads as they head into some very important games.

Oregon:

With Pac-12 play opening next Sunday, the Ducks are in need of a convincing win against a very underrated Portland Pilots team that is starting to look more comfortable with each passing game. On Saturday, Oregon will need to rely heavily on the strength of its backcourt duo with upperclasswomen Te-Hina Paopao and Endiya Rogers. Paopao and Rogers have accounted for an average of almost 26 points per game and the two combined to shoot 45.8% from the field (40% from three-point range)…

VB Preview: Oregon Women’s Volleyball Kicks Off Postseason Play Against LMU

by Ryan Oppenheimer

Oregon Women’s Volleyball (23-5) enters Friday’s postseason matchup with the Loyola Marymount Lions (18-9) on a tear, having won 13 straight starting on Oct. 16. Their consistently dominant second half of the year earned them a No. 3 seed in the NCAA Tournament and an opportunity to host the first two rounds at Matthew Knight Arena, where they are undefeated on the season. It looks like a promising year for a program that has seen success but has never reached the mountaintop. Since their first-ever tourney appearance in 2006, they’ve only missed twice, with four sweet 16 births, one elite eight birth, and a single championship appearance in 2012 where they fell to Louisville. This year, Ulmer has as much talent at his disposal as ever. Superstar senior outside hitter Brooke Nuneviller and her prodigious freshman protegé Mimi Colyer were both named to the All-Pac-12 First Team, with Colyer also taking home Freshman of the Year Honors. Setter Hannah…

PREVIEW: Ducks Set to Face Off Against the WSU Cougars at Home Tonight in Their First Conference Game of The Season

By: Jack McArthur

The Oregon Ducks will play their first conference game of the season against the Washington State Cougars at home tonight, December 1, at 7:30 PM. The Ducks have had a rocky start to their season, as they currently sit at 3-4. Although Oregon is a below .500 team, they’re coming off of a 74-67 victory against Villanova last Sunday, November 27. The Cougars on the other hand are 3-2 this season, and they’re coming off of a 96-54 non-league win against Detroit Mercy. In that game against Detroit Mercy last Friday Nov. 25, the Cougars set a school record for most made three pointers in a game. They shot 65.5% from three, making 19 out of 29 attempts against Detroit Mercy last Friday November 25.

Tonight’s match-up between Oregon and WSU will be the first meeting between the Cougars and Ducks since nearly nine months ago on March 5, 2022, when the Cougars crushed the Ducks by 20 points in Pullman, 94-74…
