MBB Story: Oregon makes a strong comeback, defeats Sun Devils
Written Story by: Jasmine Saboorian
The Oregon Men’s Basketball team played the Arizona State Sun Devils tonight on Thursday, January 25. The first half of the game opened with the Sun Devils taking the tip-off and Alonzo Gaffney starting the scoreboard up with a layup. It wasn’t long after until Matthew Knight Arena was filled with cheers as Nate Bittle put up Oregon’s first points with a perfect 3-point jumper.
The Sun Devils and Ducks continued to go neck-and-neck until N’Faly Dante was sent to the line for two after a foul by ASU’s Alonzo Gaffney. Dante successfully hit both and MKA lit up. The Sun Devils and Ducks continued to go neck-and-neck with back-to-back baskets from the Dante and the Sun Devils’ Jose Perez and Alonzo Gaffney, making the score 13-10 Devils.
A dry spell occurred for the Ducks, with no scoring for nearly eight minutes. The were stuck with 10 points on the scoreboard from 15:01 to 7:04. The dry spell was broken with a…
MBB Preview | The Heat comes to Eugene for the Weekend
by Olivia Arciniega
EUGENE, Ore – After an arguably disappointing second half of January, the Oregon men’s basketball team (13-5, 5-2 PAC12) hopes to finish the month with two critical conference wins. Both Arizona schools travel to Eugene in hopes of continuing their conference winning streaks.
The Ducks suffered two brutal losses to Utah and Colorado in the last two weeks. More recently against Utah, Jermaine Couisnard had another stellar performance, putting up 26 points and going 7-10 at the 3-point line. N'Faly Dante made his return from injury evident with a double-double (23 points and 10 rebounds). As notable as their performances were, they were overshadowed by the missed last second chances to pull out a win. Still, Oregon remains tied atop the Pac-12 with both Arizona and Arizona State, all teams with a 5-2 conference record.
The first game is Thursday, January 25th at 6:00 pm PT. against Arizona State.…

WBB PREVIEW: Oregon Hopes to Make Statement in Conference Play
By Zach Carver
Oregon wraps up a weekend in California as the Ducks look to steal an in-conference win from unranked Cal on Sunday. As of Jan. 18, the Golden Bears sit at seventh in the conference, while the Ducks are eighth. Leaving Berkeley with a win could help Oregon jump past Cal, depending on the outcomes of each team’s Friday night games. Both teams enter the weekend with a losing record in Pac-12 play. It is fair to say each team will look to bring their best in a game that holds a lot of significance in terms of the current Pac-12 standings.
Through 17 games, the Golden Bears are averaging 70 points per game on 40.7% efficiency from the field. This low percentage puts them 11th in the conference in field goal percentage. Luckily for Cal, Oregon isn't much better with its 41.4% shooting. Despite not being a great three-point shooting team, Cal takes about 42% of its shots from behind the line. Cal has yet to lose a game this season while shooting under…
