MBB: The Ducks Beat A Very Good Portland State Team, 95-84

The Ducks were able to pull out a close victory against the Vikings, 95-84, thanks in large part to five Ducks scoring in double figures. Elijah Brown led the team in scoring with 22 points. Also, Payton Pritchard finished with 18 points on 4-7 shooting from three-point range and Kenny Wooten also had 18 points to go along with 6 blocks. The Ducks outscored their opponents 42-22 on points in the paint and had 27 assists on 32 made baskets. For the Vikings, Senior Bryce Canda finished with 31 points on 5-11 shooting from three-point range and Senior Deontae North had 23 points. The Ducks play next on Saturday at Fresno State at 3 pm. A week of chaos among the Ducks' coaching staff brought uneasiness and uncertainty to Eugene, but lost among it all was the game remaining on the team's schedule. With the Oregon Athletic Department answering the players' calls for Mario Cristobal to be named the official head coach, all the distractions can be placed aside. What remains now is a Las Vegas matchup with the Mountain West Conference Champion Boise State Broncos. Entering the game ranked 25th by the CFP committee, both teams bring a history of bad-blood into their December duel. One final challenge sits ahead of Oregon, and much like the rest of the program and athletic department is trying to accomplish after the hire of Cristobal, the goal now is to refocus and stabilize, and it's most easily attained by taking care of business on the field. The Ducks won a tough game against Texas Southern, 74-68. Payton Pritchard led the Ducks in scoring with 16 points on 5-8 shooting and 2-4 shooting from 3-point range. Also, Kenny Wooten chipped in 13 points on an efficient 6-7 shooting and Troy Brown recorded his second double-double in as many games, scoring 10 points and pulling down 12 rebounds. For the Tigers, the back court duo of Donte Clark and Demontrae Jefferson finished with 17 and 16 points each, but struggled to shoot the ball, going a combined 10-34 from the field. After then-head coach Willie Taggart left Eugene for Tallahasse, Florida and the Seminoles of Florida State, the Ducks had a coaching vacancy. Oregon players made their voices heard early and often throughout Athletic Director Rob Mullens' hiring process.
