VB: Oregon's Season Ends in 2nd Round as BYU Sweeps Ducks
Oregon Volleyball's season came to an emotional close Saturday night, as the 13th-overall seed BYU Cougars swept the Ducks 25-20, 25-21, and 25-19 in the round of 32 in NCAA tourney play. Squaring off at BYU's home court in Provo, Utah, the Cougars never let off the gas pedal offensively, swinging .327 behind outside hitter Roni Jones-Perry's 27 kills on a .535 percentage. Oregon outside hitter and senior Taylor Agost was also excellent, chalking up 18 kills and hitting .457 as part of a Ducks offense that hit .265 overall. UO out-blocked BYU, the nation's 9th best team in blocks per set, 9 to 3, but had a tough time keeping serve all match long. The loss ends Oregon's year as well as the careers of Agost, setter Maggie Scott, libero Alex Hojnar, and defensive specialist Marine Hall-Poirier. It also ends Matt Ulmer's first year as head coach of the Ducks, who finish 2017 18-12 overall.
