Oregon Loses Heartbreaker, Drops Series Against Stanford
The Oregon Ducks lost an 8-5 thriller Sunday afternoon against the Stanford Cardinal. In a game that had heavy Pac-12 implications, the Ducks offense went cold for the final 9 innings of play and ultimately cost the Ducks some ground in an intense Pac-12 title race.
The first third of the game was all Oregon. Stanford starter Quinn Matthews only lasted a third of an inning as he struggled with command and loaded the bases. The Ducks were only to score one from that opportunity but got plenty more chances to tack on runs as the game continued.
Aaron Zavala knocked in a pair with a single, and Josh Kasevich hit a solo shot to extend Oregon's lead to 4. Tanner Smith continued his stellar campaign, as he broke the single-season Oregon record for doubles in a season which pushed the Duck's lead to 5. Stanford had already recycled 4 pitchers by the 3rd inning, and the 5 run margin looked like Oregon was cruising to an emphatic victory at PK Park. The Cardinal…

Story by Justin Grossweiner
Looking to move closer to securing a regular season PAC-12 title the Oregon Ducks fell to 17th ranked Stanford 6-5 on Saturday afternoon. Although starting pitcher Cullen Kafka allowed five runs total only two of the were earned for him in 4 and 1/3rd innings of work.
Oregon took the early lead in the 1st inning on a Josh Kasevich single with two outs. In the 3rd inning Stanford struck back with a rally of their own. A fielding error by Grant, a hit by Tim Tawa, and a walk by Brock Jones set up a wild pitch by Kafka to score the first of three unearned runs for Stanford in the Inning. Those other two runs came from a Christian Robinson single, the only hard hit ball of the inning, and Stanford took the 3-1 advantage. It didn't take long for Oregon to respond in the bottom half of the inning. Tanner Smith led off with single for the Ducks, and that was followed by a towering two run home run by Kenyon Yovan. Later…
