EUGENE, OR — After winning their Friday game vs UCLA due to forfeit, the Oregon Women's Basketball team dominated the USC Trojans 80-48 Sunday afternoon at Matthew Knight Arena.
Oregon came out in the first quarter with really stellar defense. The Ducks were able to hold USC to just 4-16 shooting including just 20% from 3pt range. Oregon registered 7 turnovers and had 2 block shots while Te-Hina Paopao and Endyia Rogers chimed in for 5 points a pair.
Quarter number two led to similar success for the Ducks as they opened the frame on a 9-0 run after forcing 3 turnovers resulting in 6 points. USC then outscored the Ducks during the final 6-minutes 12-10 but Oregon still led 38-21. Nyara Sabally had 13 points and 5 rebounds at the break while Endyia Rogers added 9 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists as she battled against her former team.
The second half was another quick start for the Ducks as they went on a 6-0 run in the opening 3 minutes to establish a dominant 23 point lead. USC scored 4 points midway through but were shooting a poor 2-11 through the first 7 minutes of the quarter. USC was held without a field goal in the final 3 minutes of the quarter but were able to score with 8-10 shooting at the free-throw line. Sabally added 8 points and a rebound in the frame as the Ducks led 58-35.
Although USC played their most competitive quarter in the 4th, the damage had already been done as the Ducks easily closed out the victory and pulled away on a 9-0 run late for a 80-48 victory.
Oregon has now won 11 straight games against the Women of Troy.
Oregon improves to (14-5) on the season and are now (6-1) in Pac 12 play. The Ducks will host Arizona State on Tuesday at 2pm as a rescheduled game from a previous postponement.
