MBB Story: Oregon Dominates in their opening matchup against Florida A&M
Written Story by Jakob Salao
Eugene, Ore.— Oregon’s Men’s basketball team opened their season with an 80-45 victory against the Florida A&M Rattlers. The matchup was the first in a new partnership between the Pac-12 and the Southwestern Athletic Conference in what’s known as the Pac-12/SWAC Legacy Series. Along with bringing Historically Black Colleges and Universities into a partnership with the Pac-12, it will also give Oregon the opportunity to play against Florida A&M away next season.
Oregon’s lineup saw four returners make the start: Guard Will Richardson, Guard Rivaldo Soares, Forward Quincy Guerrier, and Center N’faly Dante. The last spot was filled out by Guard Keeshawn Barthelemy, the Junior transfer from Colorado. These players got the start, but this didn’t mean that Head Coach Dana Altman forgot about the other players that joined Oregon over the off-season. The Ducks saw an efficient rotation between their starters…

PREVIEW: Oregon Women's Basketball Opens Their Season Against the Northwestern Wildcats
Preview by John Evans
EUGENE, OR - This Monday at Matthew Knight Arena, #20 Oregon Women's Basketball will host the unranked Northwestern Wildcats for the Ducks’ first game of the regular season. The game is set to tip off at 3:00 PM PT and will be the first part of a doubleheader that will see the #21 ranked men’s team start their season against Florida A&M. This game comes off the back of a 72-41 drubbing over Carroll College in an exhibition matchup on October 28 that saw a pair of strong performances from the highly-ranked freshman duo of Grace VanSlooten and Jennah Isai, with each of them contributing with 12 points a piece. The Ducks currently sit as the third-highest-ranked team in the Pac-12, coming in only behind #2 Stanford and #19 Arizona, and will look to improve that with a strong performance in the season opener against a Northwestern team that finished 7th in the Big Ten last season.

THE 2022 SEASON will begin for both the Ducks and Rattlers tonight in Matthew Knight Arena. Both teams are hopeful for more promising results after a season of periodic struggles. Oregon was plagued by inconsistency throughout much of last year. The Ducks beat 3 AP top 12 teams, which includes a 3-day stretch when they beat two top-5 teams on the road. However, they also lost 9 games against unranked opponents, and got blown out by Houston in Las Vegas. Prior to last year, the Ducks saw some sustained success. They had a 3-season stretch that resulted in 2 Sweet Sixteens, and an AP top 15 finish in the 2019-20 season (no tournament). They also made the Final Four in 2017. On the other hand, the Florida A&M Rattlers have only made the NCAA tournament 3 times in their program’s history (a 16 seed in each appearance), and they have never advanced past the second round. The Rattlers won most of their conference games in…

THE 2022-23 SEASON could potentially be a crossroads for the future of Oregon’s men's basketball team. Results have been rather inconsistent the last few years, as the team has struggled to bring their best to the floor over an extended period of time. Head Coach Dana Altman claimed his position at Oregon in 2010. In his time with the Ducks, his teams have won 3 PAC-12 regular season championships and 3 PAC-12 tournaments. His best team to date was the historic 2016-17 team that won 33 games and made the Final Four, before ultimately losing a classic semifinal game to champion North Carolina. However, such success has been hard to replicate. Oregon made Sweet Sixteens in 2019 and 2021, but consistency has been largely absent. Last season, they beat 3 teams ranked in the top 12, but lost to 9 unranked teams in the regular season and had to settle for an NIT berth.

Oregon women’s basketball are approaching their 2022-23 season. The Ducks are ranked 20th nationally according to the AP top 25 preseason poll. Here's a season preview of the Ducks before they start their season this Monday November 7th against Northwestern at 3 PM. This offseason, the Ducks had multiple players transfer out and leave. Those key players are Nyara Sabally, Maddie Scherr, Sydney Parrish, and Kylee Watson. Nyara Sabally is in the WNBA now playing for the New York Liberty. Scherr transferred to Kentucky, Parrish transferred to Indiana, and Watson transferred to Notre Dame. After these Ducks transferred, Oregon definitely lost some depth. Scherr is a solid ball handler and shooter, Parrish is a knock down shooter, and 6’4 forward Kylee Watson left Oregon with less height once she left. Maddie Scherr averaged 3.7 points and 3.3 assists for Oregon in 31 games played last season. Sydney Parrish averaged 8.5 PPG in 32 games…
