Con Brio Interview
Hey listeners! Monday evening, we lucked out by getting an interview with artist Con Brio before they played at Cozmic. DJ Polaris from Right Here, Right Now has got the scoop.
DJ Wake's review of Afternoon's Say Yes
This week, KWVA's DJ Wake from The Fainting Room reviewed Afternoons' Say Yes!
She gives the album 5/5 stars. Scroll down to check out why:
Rating: 5/5 stars
Review: Afternoons is one of those bands that is just flat out fun to listen to. With the 2014 release of their album, Say Yes, we have been blessed by the indie rock gods with a solid, consistent album that is danceable and enjoyable from the first track (“Graffiti Artist”) to the last (“We’re Just Below The Sun”). The second song of the album (“Say Yes”) reminds me of a more fun version of, well, the band Fun.! It’s bouncy and delightful, and from there, the album is nicely arranged from songs much like “Say Yes” to still-energetic-yet-moody electronica party hits. The band is comprised of members already stars in their own right, such as opera singer Claire… Read More

And now, for… Read More
Happy Weekend from KWVA!
It's Friday! We've made it through the week and we're happy you have, too. Here's what you can look forward to this weekend:
In studio, on Sunday, February 8th, Portland artist Robin Bacior will be gracing our airwaves with a live session at 5 pm. Prepare to be entranced by her dreamy, melancholy, piano-driven melodies for a full hour, hosted by DJ Sphere (R and B and Jazz). If you're unable tune in at that time, keep a look out for a video of Bacior's live session on our Youtube page.
On Saturday, February 7th, Cambodian-surf-rock group Dengue Fever will be shaking the house at WOW Hall. Kicking off their North American tour in Los Angeles on February 5th, they will be in Eugene just two days later to show us what they've got. Last time they played in Eugene was 2012, so if you missed them last time around, be sure not to miss them this time! Additionally, Eugene-native favorites Pluto the Planet and power trio… Read More
KWVA's Review of the Sasquatch 2015 Lineup
In case you haven't heard, last night marked the arrival of the lineup for one of the northwest's biggest festivals, Sasquatch! Music Festival 2015. It’s 4 days of live music at The Gorge Amphitheatre in George, Washington over Memorial Day Weekend. There’s been a buzz around campus talking about whether the lineup is worthy of the ticket purchase, and although we do not have a definitive answer, we can definitely break down what we know for you.
First off, the superstars. Kendrick Lamar, Of Monsters and Men, Lana Del Rey, and even Led Zeppelin's Robert Plant are among the most well-known (but certainly not the only big ones!). There have been rumors of a Lana Del Rey appearance in previous years, with past tour schedules flirting with Sasquatch! dates, but that dream never came to fruition until now. This will be the first we see of Plant at Sasquatch!, and it's likely to be a big draw to the festival if only for his debut. The taste makers at Sasquatch! did a great job… Read More
Featured DJ: Bryan Kalbrosky of The Everything Bagel
Each week on the blog, we'll be showcasing a different KWVA DJ. They'll tell you about their musical tastes, their history, and what their set is all about. In addition, we've included a playlist at the bottom of the page so you can catch a glimpse of what they spin.
This week's DJ: Bryan Kalbrosky - The Everything Bagel - Fridays at 2 pm - 3pm.
Greetings. My name is Bryan Kalbrosky, and I'm an office assistant and radio DJ at KWVA. I've hosted "The Everything Bagel" for three years now, and my goal is to provide listeners with a collection of alternative music that they otherwise may not have heard. As suggested by the name of my show, it's important for me to not get trapped in one genre: in the same week, I'll have an old track by The Talking Heads mixed with an even older one by Bruce Springsteen.
I also love to play new releases as often as I can, and never play the same song twice. Some of my favorites include lo-fi Canadian slacker rocker Mac DeMarco, Chicago-… Read More
