Name: DJ Scoops Show title and time: Super Soul Set, Friday's 3-4 pm Winter 2015 How long he's been with KWVA: 3 years Hometown: Portland, Oregon What he's all about: "Every Friday from 3-4 PM, I host Super Soul Set on KWVA. The majority of the music I spin comes directly from the dusty crates of my vinyl library. There is something so satisfying about being able to hold onto a big, circular plate of wax; when you touch the music you play you feel more connected to it. My goal with my show is too keep the funk alive. Many people don't know it, but funk is a music almost anyone can get down to. I want people to head into their weekends with music that will make them… Read More

DJ Dad's Review of Father John Misty's I Love You, Honeybear

Listened to Father John Misty's new album, I Love You, Honeybear, yet? KWVA's DJ Dad from Family Values has the reason why you should take a good, hard listen below: Josh Tillman wrote a new album about his wife. That would be the end of this review if he hadn't done it with impeccable breadth, style and beauty. But, let's start at the beginning of his solo career. Father John Misty's (FJM) debut album, Fear Fun (2012) was a sincere commitment to the sarcastic. The title itself is enough to illustrate this. A scratchy country croon sings songs of self-deprecating apathy, "Oh-h Pour me another drink / and punch me in the face / you can call me Nancy." An unusual statement made by the guy who also unravels the "Truly staggering amount of all that it takes to make a record." later in said debut. Is he spending all this time… Read More

DJ Wake's review of Afternoon's Say Yes

This week, KWVA's DJ Wake from The Fainting Room reviewed Afternoons' Say Yes!  She gives the album 5/5 stars. Scroll down to check out why: Rating: 5/5 stars Review: Afternoons is one of those bands that is just flat out fun to listen to. With the 2014 release of their album, Say Yes, we have been blessed by the indie rock gods with a solid, consistent album that is danceable and enjoyable from the first track (“Graffiti Artist”) to the last (“We’re Just Below The Sun”). The second song of the album (“Say Yes”) reminds me of a more fun version of, well, the band Fun.! It’s bouncy and delightful, and from there, the album is nicely arranged from songs much like “Say Yes” to still-energetic-yet-moody electronica party hits. The band is comprised of members already stars in their own right, such as opera singer Claire… Read More
