BSB | Stanford completes sweep of Ducks with bats and arms

After getting blown out in Friday’s game, Oregon(22-16, 7-8 Pac-12) looked downtrodden as they lost the third game of the series 10-0 on Saturday to complete the Stanford(27-6, 13-2 Pac-12) sweep. With the loss, Oregon drops to below .500 in Pac-12 play, certainly not the place the team wants to be at this point in the season.

Starting pitcher Tyler Frazier could not even escape the first inning before being chased from the game. He would finish with five earned runs, while walking three and striking out none. Kolby Somers and Ryne Nelson would pick up the slack for him though, combining for 7.1 innings of three run ball; Nelson especially looked impressive, striking out eight batters over his 3.2 innings while allowing no earned runs of his own. Oregon pitching continued to be hounded by Brandon Wulff, who would be walked three times, and in the ninth inning, he hit one of the longest home runs ever at PK Park, estimated at 440 feet. He finishes the weekend 7-10 with four homers and eight runs batted in, raising his season batting average by 40 points.

After putting together nine runs over the last two games against a very good Cardinal pitching staff, Oregon was hopeless today against their starting pitcher Erik Miller, who struck out 11 batters over 6 innings and only allowing four hits. Oregon only had one extra base hit on the day courtesy of Spencer Steer, and never really had a serious threat to score until the ninth inning when two pinch hitters singled.

Next, the Ducks travel to Berkeley to take on California for a three game set. They don’t play in Eugene until May 7th against Portland.
