VB | After Slow Start, Ducks Take Control And Win Civil War Matchup in Four

No. 17 Oregon was able to take the Civil War against Oregon State, in a match that saw the Beavers win the first set, but the Ducks reeled-off three straight to take it 19-25, 25-18, 25-16, 25-14. The Beavers started the match in control early on, taking a 5 point lead near the end, propelling them to that first set win, behind 6 kills from Amy Underdown, 16 assists from Maddie Sheehan, and 15 digs from Grace Massey. The second set was a complete turnaround for the Ducks, as the team went on a 5-0 to take an 11-8 lead and didn’t look back. That run and second set play was led by Juniors Ronika Stone and Willow Johnson, as helping the team have an outstanding of .472 hitting percentage in that set alone. The third and fourth sets saw the Ducks’ play improve and help them win those sets with margins of 9 and 11. For the match, the Ducks were able to hit .275 while the Beavers percentage dropped all the way to .123 after hitting at even in set three and negative in the fourth. Lindsey Vander Weide finished her last regular season match with a double-double, recording 10 kills and 20 digs, hitting at a .250 clip. Ronika Stone finished with 11 kills on a .286 hitting percentage, and also adding 8 blocks. Fellow upperclassmen Willow Johnson led the team in kills with 11 and hit .324. Senior August Raskie also recorded a double-double with 39 assists and 13 digs. For the Beavers, Amy Underdown led her team and was the match leader in kills with 19, and also had 10 digs, securing her the double-double. Also, Maddie Sheehan had 34 assists and 5 kills, while hitting .400. Grace Massey led the match with 30 digs. The Ducks (20-10 overall, 13-7, tied 2nd in Pac-12) will hope to get a home bid in the NCAA tournament after an impressive performance on the road this season, while the Beavers season comes to a close, finishing the season 11-21 overall, with a 1-19 Pac-12 play record.
